First, I added a few things that just say winter to me, with the primary one being pinecones. They’re appropriate at Christmas, obviously, but I feel like they cross over into “winter decor” as well. In addition, I changed the baskets in front of my mantel and added my vintage French demijohn.
Texture is a big one for me in winter. Baskets, blankets and throws, and texture in pillows and fabrics all add that “cozy” feeling we want in the wintertime.
On the sofa I changed out my Christmas pillows for these linen and velvet ones from Home Goods. I love the texture the cut velvet adds.
On the coffee table I added pinecones to my new (to me!) vintage French oyster basket and I also kept out the yummy Frasier Fir candle by Thymes. This is one of my all-time favorite winter scents! Vase is from Pottery Barn. (and it’s on sale now!)
The books were changed out for ones with very neutral and/or grey covers. I didn’t want anything too spring-y so my green ones will come back out in a few months.
This throw is the Porter throw from Pottery Barn; I just the love the texture it adds!
I used these tiny pine cones when I decorated for Christmas, but I’m keeping them out because I love them!
The result is a clean but simple look that will last until I start decorating for spring. Pitchers are vintage and new from Anthropologie.

Hi Sheila! Its Michelle from MarcheMaison.com! I get to see you via tweets on twitter and on Instagram too. I enjoyed reading all about your valentines day pops in your kitchen on Ablissfulnest. I love how you did it in a subtle way. Thank you too for pointing to the other bloggers that you link with. I LOVE decorating seasonally and so enjoy finding other like minded designers who do as well!

Thanks Amy! It always seems so bare after Christmas, so I embraced it a little while still trying to add some texture and coziness!

I love your post! Also, I love your term, Design Funk! Oh my goodness, I experienced that before I got my rear in gear for this living room post. I love all your beautiful elements that you added and kept in your living room. Your white vases from Anthropologie are stunning and I think I need to take a visit to our fabulous store here in the Bay Area! Thanks so much for joining us in our January tour!
