Have you thought about taking collagen but were unsure about it? Today I’m sharing all about the benefits of collagen and why I decided to add it to my diet.
I’ve been hearing a lot about collagen powder and supplements over the last couple of years. It started with a friend of mine mentioning how much it was helping her back and knee pain. Then I kept seeing celebrities talk about it on Instagram. It had me intriqued, and that’s when I decided I needed more information.
For those of you who know me in ‘real life’, I’m a person who does thorough research before taking anything at face value. So I googled “benefits of collagen”, and read, and read some more. And then I spoke to my doctor who told me she takes collagen! At that point, I knew I wanted to try it for myself.
Everyone has their own reasons for taking it, but for me, it was mainly hair and nails, and joints. I had back surgery in my 20s and now that I’m older, it’s been bothering me much more than it used to. And as I’ve aged, I’ve noticed my hair and nails are not strong and thick like they used to be, so I wanted to see if it made a difference.
At about that time, Collagen for Her reached out to me and offered to send me some to try. Bear in mind that not all collagen supplements are created equal. To me, it was vital that they be made from non-GMO (grass-fed, hormone and cruelty-free sources). Not only is grass-fed meat (and its proteins) better for you, but the life is better for the animals as well.
Collagen For Her, is also a women-owned company. That wasn’t a requirement, but definitely something that I feel really good about. A win/win in my book!
You might have heard of collagen but not been exactly sure what it is. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body, comprising about 30% of all the protein in our bodies; with 70% of the protein found in our skin, 90% in our connective tissue, and 90% in our bone mass. This is why collagen is often referred to as “the glue that holds the body together” because without collagen our bodies wouldn’t be able to perform a lot of its essential functions.
Unfortunately, the older we get the less collagen we are able to produce (that seems to be the case with so many things, right?) Your body actually starts producing less collagen around the age of 25! However, adding a soluble collagen supplement to your diet can help increase the collagen levels in your body.
Here are only some of the benefits of collagen:
• Helps to maintain smooth and firm skin
• Strengthens hair and nails
• Maintains heart and liver health
• Improves blood flow
• Aids in digestion
• Helps support healthy joints and bones
So I’m sure you’re wondering, did I notice any differences? I definitely have!
I’ve now been using the Collagen Peptide Powder for almost two months, and I’m definitely seeing improvement!
I noticed less back pain and stiffness right away – within only a few weeks. It has taken a little longer to see results in my hair and nails but now I definitely am. My nails especially are much harder and break less than they have in years!
The key to any kind of collagen program is consistency. You need to take it every day for at least 2-3 months to begin to see real improvements. And Collagen for Her makes it very easy to take! I use a scoop in my coffee or in a smoothie every morning. It’s part of my routine now and something that I plan to keep up.
It is hydrolyzed for absorption, and dissolves quickly. It is also truly tasteless, something I didn’t find in the other collagens I tried prior to this. Those flavored my coffee way too much (and not in a good way!)
And if you don’t drink coffee, you can easily add it to any warm beverage like tea or hot chocolate. There are also capsules and gummies for those who don’t drink tea or coffee or consume smoothies. (I plan on using those when I’m traveling!)
Collagen for Her makes two basic formulas. The original Collagen Peptide Powder (which is the one I use) contains one ingredient, pure hydrolyzed collagen peptides, sourced from bovine. But they also have the Marine Collagen Beauty Blend (blue container) which is sourced from fish, not bovine, so it’s pescatarian friendly.
For more information, you can check out the FAQ page at Collagen for Her or their blog and WebMD also has a helpful article on collagen’s health benefits.
All in all, I’m thrilled and impressed at the results I’ve had already! And I’m looking forward to even more benefits the longer I take it. It’s been hassle-free and easy to use. Plus the fact that it dissolves so well and is flavorless completely sold me!
And the good news is, if you’d like to try Collagen for Her for yourself they are currently having their big New Year Bundle sale! You can save up to 30% right now, plus you will get a free bottle of their Healthy Gut Probiotics with any bundle, while supplies last. Since you need to take collagen for 2-3 months before expecting to see results, the bundles are a great option to start.
All of their products are also available on Amazon if you prefer to shop there. They don’t have the bundles on Amazon but you can always choose the subscribe & save option to get 10% off each and every order (that’s what I’m now doing!)
Here’s to a healthy 2023!

Collagen sure sounds like it’s worth trying and I will, but I especially liked your watch, necklace and pink top. Any links to where those can be purchased.

Aww thank you Gail – I hope you do! I’ve been so pleased with the results so far. My sweatshirt was from JCrew a couple of years ago, but the watch and necklace are still available. See below for the links:

I use collagen gummies. I take it for my hair since I’ve been loosing hair and also for my nails! I’ve seen some difference in my nails but not much in my hair yet!!

Hi Mary! You might want to try a collagen peptide powder, simply because the amount of collagen is much greater than what is in gummies or pills – that’s what I’ve read and what my doctor confirmed. I’m definitely seeing more hair growth now!
