We replaced the dated lighting in our entry way with new French country sconces and it’s given the space a whole new look!
This week I’m excited to share our entry way update with you! I’ve been wanting to change out the vintage sconces that were there for awhile now, and it’s finally happened.
I’m loving the new French country sconces and the change they bring to the space!
The new sconces are exactly what I wanted! I like to mix vintage and/or antiques with new or reproductions, and this does exactly that. The sconces are the Verdure wall sconce from Aidan Gray, and I’m smitten!
If you’re a regular reader, I’m sure you’re familiar with the antique Trumeau mirror that is the focal point of our entry. On either side, I had some vintage sconces. And though they weren’t awful, they weren’t what I really wanted. They were hand-me-downs, and more of a “place holder” than anything else.
They just felt a little fussy for the cleaner, more modern French country look I’ve been working toward.
Before
After
I wanted something more in keeping with the style of the mirror, and I think these definitely fit the bill! These also feel a little more updated than the sconces that were here previously.
As I shared in my master bedroom remodel post, Aidan Gray is one of my absolute favorite home furnishings companies. They do understated elegance so well – mixing modern elements with European inspired designs. Right up my alley! 😉
I was a little limited with what I could choose for the space, too. I couldn’t go too big width-wise due to the Mora clock on the right side, and I couldn’t have a sconce that added too much height, either, due to where the previous holes were cut. But luckily, I found these and they worked out perfectly!
I love the aged white finish, the details, and the touch of gold on these French country sconces. It ties in the little bit of gold trim that outlines the mirror.
It’s amazing what a difference this small change has made in the entire space!

I just love your blog and all the links you post to similar items. Can you tell me where you purchased your trumeau mirror and did you use something to distress the glass? Blessings to you and your family.

Hi Courtney and thanks so much for your sweet compliment! My Trumeau is an antique and the finish is exactly how I found it. I have linked several reproduction Trumeau-style mirrors in the post as the antiques can be pricey and quite hard to find. And some of these are gorgeous – and priced really well. If you truly want an antique I would keep an eye on 1st Dibs as things do go on sale there.

Sheila,
I love your new sconces…. but I love, love, love the ones you had there before. Would you be getting rid of them? I am a victim of Florence, lost every thing, trying to make a “new -to-us house” a “home -to-us”house. Boy…is that a job!
It has turned into a money pit. But it is coming along. Love your beautiful home. Your taste is exquisite.
