Frequently Asked Questions

First of all, thank you for being here! I’m thrilled to have such a wonderful community of readers and am always happy to answer any questions you have. Since many of the questions I get here and on Instagram are the same, I thought I’d try to answer the most frequently asked questions here.

Where do I find French or European inspired furniture and accessories? You’ve come to the right place for this! My favorite sites for French inspired home decor are also the ones I shop at myself; Ballard Designs, Wayfair, Amazon, and Wisteria. And if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for my free 5-part email series, How to Get a French Farmhouse Look for Less, where I share lots of shopping sources!

Where can I shop the things that I see in your home? I have a whole section on the blog dedicated to shopping my home by room to make it easy for you to shop for something you’ve seen. You can click Shop my Home here, and then select whichever room you’re looking for.

What paint colors did you use in your home? All of the paint we’ve used in our home is Benjamin Moore.

Kitchen cabinets, family room builtins, and all doors, trim, and molding throughout the whole house: Cloud White
Living room and dining room walls: White Dove
Family room walls: Edgecomb Grey at 50%
Office walls: Revere Pewter at 50%
Primary Bedroom walls: White Dove
Front Door: Black by Dunn Edwards

Where can I find something I see in a blog post? I try to credit most of the items you see in each post. If they are sold out or otherwise unavailable, I will always provide similar items for you. You can find ‘Shop the Post’ widgets at the bottom of every post where it’s easy to scroll and shop for anything you’re looking for.

What are your favorite stores? For home decor and furniture, I love Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, Wayfair, and Anthropologie, and for garden elements, Terrain. For fashion, J.Crew, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Anthropologie, and Sézane are my most frequently shopped sites.

Do you do interior design work for hire? Unfortunately, I no longer do any interior design work aside from my own home. Maison de Cinq is more than a full-time job and if I added design work as well, I’d never be able to create content here for all of you!

Do you have a You Tube channel? I do! I haven’t done many videos there yet but I plan on adding much more content in the coming year, so be sure to subscribe and then check back for more!

May I use your photographs on my site? Usually I allow the use of one photograph per project. Please ask permission first so that we know where it is being used, and make sure to credit ‘Maison de Cinq’ and link back to the original post. Also, we don’t allow our photographs to be used for commercial purposes or advertising, or with affiliate links for any reason.

Do you accept guest posts? No, we do not accept guest posts or paid links and don’t answer any emails inquiring about either one.

I want to start a blog. Any tips? Write and write some more! Be consistent in providing content and it will get easier and you will get better. Make sure your photographs are high-quality, and if you aren’t good with a camera, take a beginning class to help you improve. Both writing and photography get better with practice! In the early years of blogging, I went to several conferences and learned a lot there so they are also a great source of information, as well as a way to meet other bloggers.

But my best piece of advice is not to start a blog to make money. Start a blog because you want a creative outlet, have something to share, or want to create a community. Only when you’re truly passionate about what you’re sharing will you create something that people want to read, and in turn, grow your business.

If there’s anything here we didn’t cover, feel free to email with any questions at sheila@maisondecinq.com.
