French Christmas Living Room in Sage Green & Gold

This French Christmas living room is decorated in sage green and gold, along with pops of white. The serene setting mixes in plenty of greenery for a fresh and festive feel!

Today I’m finally sharing the ‘big rooms’ – the formal living and dining rooms all dressed for the holidays! And just like I did in both the family room and the kitchen, I’m continuing the soft sage green color palette. I love the greens and when mixed with gold and white, they create such a serene and pretty feel.

This palette is so up my alley! I’ve always loved soft sage green and used to have several rooms decorated in this color. Then it seemed to disappear! When the decorating world decided it went out of style, it was hard to find bedding, pillows, and other decor in green. But it seems to be back, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I actually planned this palette last Christmas! That’s usually when I start getting inspiration and planning for the following year. So early this fall I started acquiring a few sage green ornaments to mix in with the gold, silver and white I already owned. I love that by having mostly metallic ornaments I can buy a few of a new color without going overboard, and still create a whole new look!

The wreath hanging on the mantel mirror is my favorite cedar wreath. It’s a generous size and looks very real. And because it’s so simple, it’s easy to change up the look by adding different ribbon colors or bits of detail like ornaments or pinecones.

This year I added a sage green velvet ribbon and a few of my favorite brass bells for a classic look.

I also did something very different on the mantel this year! Rather than ‘swooping’ the garland as I’ve done for the last four years, I simply laid it across the mantel. Not only is this easier, but it’s a nice change from prior years.

Then I added two gold garlands that I swooped across the face. The pretty vintage-style bell garland I purchased on Etsy, and the gold beaded one I already owned and used on the tree last year.

I also added pieces of eucalyptus (they were part of a eucalyptus garland that I cut up – I use these every year!)

Tip: Even when ‘laying’ the garland on the mantel, I still used more than one garland to create fullness. This is actually two different garlands, both 9 feet long. The first is a less expensive pine one, and then my favorite cedar garland got laid over that. If you use 6 foot versions, you’d most likely need two more to get this look and have it drape down the sides.

The sage green looks gorgeous with gold, and I added some white ornaments for a bright pop and to keep things looking fresh.

I also dressed up the Mora clock! This little wreath trio seemed the perfect thing to add a little seasonal cheer to her!

On the coffee table I have lots of faux greens in a vintage wood vessel, along with a little vignette of jingle bells with a white bottle brush tree.

These little jingle bells are something I found this year and I just adore them! And they are such high quality. They are solid brass – and heavy! (Perfect for a reindeer 😉 )

On the sofa table are more greens (real and faux this time!), along with some larger brass bells. I rarely get to use the really large ones so it was fun to use them as display this year!

The pretty sage green wrapping papers are from Etsy and JSH Essentials – a new, small store I just discovered that has the cutest things! Ribbons are a mix of Anthropologie, Etsy, and Amazon.

The dining room is decorated simply with little wreaths on the chairs and a greenery swag.

I hung a greenery swag and then added more of the jingle bells – how cute are these?!  Below that, on the console a vintage wood bowl holds ornaments, with some pine and cedar tucked in.

Ornaments are one of the easiest ways to decorate for the holidays, and they look good anywhere you put them! So add them to a bowl, a tray, or even just leave a few on a table for a casual look.

The entry way table is simple this year with just my favorite little tabletop tree, this time dressed in gold pears and a new vintage-style topper. This gold bird felt sooo French – I knew I had to have it the minute I saw it!

I love your style and copy a lot of it in my own home. Question…In the Living Room photo on the coffee table you have two gold pomegranates under glass. I thought you had posted where these were from recently but cannot find. Do you remember where they were purchased from? Thank you.

    1. Hi Chrystine I linked these pomegranates a couple of weeks ago in a Friday Favorites post, but unfortunately, they’re all sold out now. If I find them again I’ll be sure to add a link, but so far I haven’t had any luck!

      Thanks for stopping by!
