Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

It’s Halloween weekend! Do you all have any special plans? We don’t usually and this year is no exception. We did a lot when the kids were small, but now our twenty-somethings are in college or go out with friends so we’ll be at home. Our big plans? Handing out candy (which I love 🙂 ) and maybe watching a scary movie.

And now onto Friday Favorites!

THINGS I LOVE IN DESIGN/DECOR

Love this stunning kitchen – that range hood!

On the home front I’m balancing between finishing the basics that need to get done, like the guest room, and planning my Christmas decor. I’m also still on the prowl for a living room rug and recently came across this new Pottery Barn rug. I love that it’s wool and looks like a Turkish antique. This one also has a vintage feel, is less expensive, and since it’s Amazon, would be easy to return! Haven’t pulled the trigger on either yet, but hope to soon.

And of course, I’m thinking about Christmas! Though I won’t be decorating for a bit, I’m starting to plan now. Every year I change my color scheme slightly so I’ve ordered a few new things that I love and thought I’d share!

This garland from McGee was one I was eyeing last year and didn’t buy and I’m so excited it’s back! It’s seriously so good. And I couldn’t resist these little cypress trees! They are soo cute and the terracotta pots are adorable (they also come in a topiary style here).

These sparkly birch trees are gorgeous and remind me of the PB ones from last year for much less. And I’m totally smitten with this checkered stocking! Does it get any cuter??

Without giving away my decor plan, I did splurge on some of this gorgeous velvet ribbon. In years past I bought most of my ribbon on Etsy but I compared those prices to this one, and they were actually way more! But I do mix in some of this reasonable one as well. 😉

Scent is very important to my overall seasonal decorating, maybe even more so at the holidays. My all-time favorite candle has always been this Forest Fir one. So delicious! But I did recently happen upon this gorgeous one! That bell vessel it comes in makes it so pretty and a friend told me they smell really good (they also go to charity, which is nice). I’m going to give it a try!

Last week’s best sellers: these perfect table top trees and my favorite realistic wreath.

THINGS I’M WEARING/LOVING/WANTING

I’m obsessed with wool coats right now! J.Crew is doing an amazing job with theirs, and they’re all on sale this weekend. This top coat (25% off) is gorgeous, and the Cocoon coat (30% off) is a great basic.

Other fabs finds are this double-breasted coat (above), and this coat in the brown is really stunning.

You guys know how much I love a striped sweater, and they seem to be having a major moment! They are literally everywhere, at every price point. And they’re such a great winter basic. Love this one, this oversize version (40% off) is very on-trend, and this one is very affordable.

Another hot trend? Silver, in both bags and shoes. I’ve been seeing it and reading about it since last spring, but now it seems to really be taking off. Personally, I love the idea of a silver loafer. So cute with black sweaters or coats and jeans. Love this one or this one. These flats (30% off) are also adorable, and I saw these kitten heels on a blogger on IG and they are stunning (just ordered!)

Last week’s best sellers: this pretty blazer that’s a steal and these flowy wide-leg pants.

THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING/LISTENING TO

I just started watching The Super Models documentary and I’m loving it! If you haven’t heard, it focuses on four of the biggest super models of the 80’s and 90’s, with lots of background and fascinating stories.

It’s so interesting and really made me realize there’s never been anyone like them since. Although there are models now, and some are known by name, none have reached the heights of these women. I for one love when women support women, so it’s a lovely story to witness. And of course, it’s a trip down memory lane for sure! Highly recommend.

THINGS I’M MAKING/EATING/DRINKING

Soup! It’s finally cool enough to start thinking about making soup. During the fall and winter months I try to make soup at least once a week but until now it was still just a little too hot.

I’ve had good luck with Ina Garten’s and make quite a few of them, like this Split Pea Soup and this Cream of Mushroom Soup (amazing!) This Chicken Pot Pie Soup (above) also looks yummy.

Good morning Sheila. I can’t wait to try the Chicken Pot Pie Soup. I think it’s calling my name. I have always made my own soup so, this recipe will be on my “to do” list for tomorrow. Have a great day. Theresa

    1. I’m so happy to hear that Theresa – hope it’s delicious (though everything she does usually is!)
