Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

How is everyone? We’ve been enjoying our summer weather that’s (finally!) arrived. It’s been so lovely – I’ll try to remember that when August hits and it’s been sweltering for weeks!

I’ve also been starting to think about getting some of the house projects done that have been on the back burner forever. Both upstairs bathrooms need to be redone, and we also need new carpet, and I’d like to redo my son’s room now that he’s not coming back. ๐Ÿ™

Sometimes I can’t believe the things I live with and never finish, haha! But, I did sell my son’s remaining furniture so at least I can get started on that guest room!

Also, I got a request last week to share my summer ‘bucket list’ so I’ll be talking more about that below!

THINGS Iโ€™M LOVING IN DESIGN/DECOR

Though Spanish is not typically a style I gravitate to, I have to say that this Spanish-style home is absolutely stunning. You’d swear this was in Spain and not California!

Have you guys seen the viral Amazon curtains everyone keeps sharing on Instagram?! They are truly amazing and look like custom drapes for waaay less than you’d pay elsewhere. I’m getting ready to order some and can’t wait!

Another couple of amazing Amazon finds are these rustic vases here and here (both shapes come in two sizes). I just got them and they have a great vintage vessel look. And these wood candleholders here and here are another great find that are a steal at that price!

I popped into Pottery Barn the other day to order more of the spheres for our yard and saw this adorable embroidered pillow (and it’s 30% off!)

I’ve been waiting for this charming basket planter to be back in stock! It’s perfect as a centerpiece on a dining table, and could work indoors or out.

Looking for a cute tray that gives a lot of bang for your buck? This handcrafted tray is huge, and under $30!!

And now let’s talk summer stuff! A couple of you asked me to share my ‘Summer Bucket List’ so here goes. It’s by no means absolute and we may adjust it by adding or removing some of them, but it’s a good start!

Summer Bucket List

  1. Drive somewhere fun in L.A. to get ice cream
  2. Go to the farmers market & plan a dinner with what we buy
  3. Take a walk on the beach
  4. Take a fun/new hike
  5. Go to a concert in the park
  6. Go to a botanical garden
  7. Indulge in a spa day
  8. Make cold brew coffee
  9. Have sโ€™mores by the firepit
  10. Do a day of wine tasting
  11. Make homemade ice cream
  12. Take Hudson to the beach
  13. Go to the library and rent some actual books
  14. Make at least one fruit pie/dessert
  15. Take a trip!

It may sound silly, but I really think by writing them down it will make most of them much more likely to happen!

And another child-like thing I did recently is to buy a pretty bulletin board for my office. I’ve wanted to create a seasonal mood board for years and when my friend Kim shared hers, I was inspired to finally make it happen. I purchased this linen display board and couldn’t love it more! It matches my decor perfectly and Kim had spoken so highly of it that I knew it would be good quality.

I bought these simple gold push pins as well as lots of these cute ones from this Etsy seller.

After a month of it hanging there empty, I finally added my spring/summer mood board a few weeks ago, with the plan being that I’ll change it out seasonally. And I can’t tell you how happy it makes me! It’s like a grown-up version of my junior high days and all the fashion/inspiration pics I would cut out of magazines and tape to the back of my bedroom door.

I’ll probably tweak it a little now that we’re more into summer weather, but in the meantime, every single time I walk into my office, it brings a smile to my face.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Last week’s best sellers: this stoneware pitcher and this yummy Salt & Sea candle (2nd week in a row).

THINGS Iโ€™M WEARING/WANTING

We talked about beachy things last week, but not beachy sweaters (a summer favorite!) This chunky pointelle sweater is stunning (above – 50% off now) and this similar one is gorgeous and comes in several colors.

Spied this adorable knit sweater tank the other day – it’s soo perfect for so many things. They’re great with shorts, pants or skirts (love the black and the brown!)

I also love the idea of a pretty, strappy sandal for summer. This one’s 40% off and comes in 4 colors (love the gold!) and this classic gladiator style is so pretty (the bronze is so good!)

I think I’ve mentioned how much I love Supergoop sunscreens before, and now they’ve come out with a new tinted version called Protec(tint). I love the idea of using this on a day where you just want to feel a little pulled together, but don’t need or want a lot of makeup. I’m excited to try it!

Eyelet is a great look for summer, and I’m totally loving this stunning eyelet linen blouse and this sleeveless top is also adorable.

Last week’s best sellers: my fave beach shirt/coverup (still on sale) and this classic French-style striped tee.

THINGS Iโ€™M WATCHING/READING

We just started a new show called Bodkin. It’s a British comedic thriller that’s quirky and very different – we’re liking it so far.

But I’d love to have a couple more new shows to watch! There are a few I’ve heard good things about but haven’t tried yet. Gentleman in Moscow, Mr. & Mrs. Smith (yes, this is based on the Brangelina movie from 2005), and Dark Matter are a few that come to mind. Have any of you seen them? Let me know!

THINGS Iโ€™M EATING/DRINKING

I bought a new cook book and I’m loving it. Cooking in Real Life is by Lidy Heuck, a woman who worked under Ina Garten for over a decade (can we talk about a dream job?!), as well as a stint at The Lost Kitchen (hopefully you’ve watched that show – it’s a must-see!)

So far we’ve made Cider-Glazed Sausages with Caramelized Apples and Fennel, Grilled Chicken with Yogurt & Shawarma Spices, as well as the Grilled Zucchini with Lemon Dressing, Feta & Mint and have loved all of them. They sound fancy, but they are uncomplicated.

Her tag line is “delicious and do-able recipes for everyday” and they really are!

RANDOM THOUGHTS

Peonies! Have you gotten any yet? I wait anxiously every May for them to arrive at our local TJs and have had them several times over the last few weeks. It’s a tradition! And if you love flowers, you have to follow Georgianna Lane on Instagram (above). Her photos are swoon-worthy!

  1. So glad everything was OK. We missed you on Friday! I ordered Two Pages drapes and Linen Roman shades from the Liz Linen line in Beige White and Ivory White for a different room and am pleased with them. They are a fraction of the cost of other custom window coverings!! I ordered the triple pleat and the body memory shape. I highly recommend that! After shipping and sitting folded in the packages for weeks until my rids came ans my husband hung them they hung perfectly with no steaming! In fact, I need to place another order for the window seats in my closet and for my bathroom. I did order blackout lining for my east facing bedrooms and they are very thick and block the heat and light very well. On my roman shades I ordered privacy lining…which is lighter weight and the cordless option. They take a little “fooofing” to get them evenly flat but I’m OK with that. SUPER easy installation and arrived within 2 weeks of order. I’m sure that is more than you wanted to know but just in case you do! ๐Ÿ˜
I love your mood board. Great idea! I have TJs Peonies on my table right now! I’d love to grow them at some point when we plan our garden. Can’t wait to see what you do for remodeling on your bathrooms and guest bedroom. I’m sure it will be something I love! I’m in the planning stage for those two rooms as well but have been slowed down by another project! I’m pretty sure I want to do a checkerboard tile in one of our bathrooms. Not sure on the shower yet. Do share soon! Thanks, Sheila! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. Oh my gosh, you are so sweet – thank you JC! I am so sorry, and I can’t believe I didn’t realize until someone wrote me! Anyway I’m also ordering mine soon and excited about it. Everything I’ve heard is good!!

As always, thank you for your kindness and for following along, it’s so appreciated! ๐Ÿ™‚
