Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

I’m starting to hear rumblings of fall in Blogland and on Instagram! And though I will start earlier than some because it’s my job, this is just a little too early – even for me!

So since we still have a quite few more weeks of summer, I’m hanging on with everything I’ve got – at least for now! Maybe in a couple weeks when I’m weak from multiple days of heat and humidity, I’ll feel differently, haha.

And now let’s talk Friday Favorites!

Welcome to August!

THINGS I’M LOVING IN DESIGN/DECOR

This home is simple yet full of charm! See it all here.

Since for the most part I’m still reveling in summer, I’m savoring these heady last warm days with dinners outside and concerts in the park. How about Frenchify-ing your picnics with this rattan picnic caddy or this adorable one? They make me happy just looking at them! 🙂

And of course, if you’re going to do it right, you’ll need a water resistant picnic blanket (great price and great reviews), or you could go for this stylish one (love the gingham and it’s 30% off!)

I’m always looking for pretty little finds that are useful and versatile, or that make a great gift. This set of two marble trays is an absolute steal at $58!! They’re a good size, and the scalloped edge makes them special (just ordered them for the bathroom).

A few fun sale finds! This fluted paper mache bowl is so unique and on sale for 30% off, these chunky wood candleholders are a steal at 30% off now, and this heirloom ceramic party bucket is so gorgeous and on sale for 20% off.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when I told you guys about how my Juliska everyday dishes were not at all holding up? They are so disappointing! Anyway, I didn’t want to bite the bullet on a whole new set yet, so I ordered a few plates from this line to see if they would hold up any better and they are amazing!!

I love the scalloped edge and the creamy color, and we’ve been eating on them every single day for weeks and there isn’t a mark on them. Anyway, thought I’d share cause they’re gorgeous and right now the 4-piece plate setting is half off! #sohappy

Last week’s best sellers: this stunning floral throw pillow and this pretty fluted travertine tray (a steal!)

THINGS I’M WEARING/WANTING

How about a little bridge between those tank tops and shorts and full-on fall? I’m loving things that can work now and later!

I feel like this textured popover blouse (30% off) might be the quintessentially perfect blouse – seasonless and soo versatile and this floral shirt is on sale now for under $70!

Jackets that bridge the seasons are essential, especially if (like me) you are freezing in all the over air-conditioned spaces. I love that this linen cropped jacket (50% off) is less dressy than a blazer, this versatile light-weight bomber could be dressed up or down (30% off), and this denim lady jacket is so much more interesting than a plain-old jean jacket.

I just discovered an amazing new on-line store called Mint Velvet, have you heard of it? (the sweater above is from there). It’s based in Britain and I love their casual chic style (their tag line is actually “relaxed glamour”), plus the price points are great. They charge nominal shipping, but return shipping is free (key for me!)

I ordered this embroidered sweater (above) which is so feminine and gorgeous (reminds me of Sézane style but for much less!), and this contrast-trim polo shirt (so chic!)

Another store I’ve been finding more and more at is Tuckernuck. It’s a well-curated mix of brand name fashion and their own lines. This pretty chambray maxi-dress is a perfect example of their classic style.

Random steal: these strappy cream sandals for under $50!! It’s so hard to find comfortable, not-too-high dressy heels and these are a steal in real leather. Perfect for any summer event!

Last week’s best sellers: this beautiful set of 2 pendant necklaces and this versatile tank dress (2nd week in a row!)

THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING

Since we were holed up last weekend, we decided to re-visit some of my favorite romantic comedies. First we watched Sleepless in Seattle which I haven’t seen in ages (so good!) Then the next night we did Notting Hill (above) which is one of my absolute favorites!

After watching Sleepless I was doing a little googling of Nora Ephron since she was the writer/director, and I discovered there’s a documentary about her called Everything is Copy. I’m a huge fan (can’t believe I’ve never seen it). Plan to watch it this week!

THINGS I’M EATING/DRINKING

This Summer Pasta with Zucchini, Ricotta, and Basil (above) is calling my name!

  1. I bought the french pearle plates from Lenox 16 years ago (a slightly different version) for everyday use. They have held up remarkably well! Good luck with your set.

  2. I loved the home and the designer you chose for this week. I love so many of the choices you present that Friday is a favorite day for me to check in. I missed any post you had mentioning problems with your Juliska china. Can you point me to that post or mention? I was considering one of their sets and want all the information before I make a final decision. Thanks very much.

    1. Hi Phyllis! Thanks so much for the kind words, so glad you love Fridays! 🙂

The mention was in another FF, this one I think: https://maisondecinq.com/friday-favorites-149/

I didn’t say much, just that they look horrible!! SO many black marks all over them, and as you know, they are not cheap. I thought I was investing in quality but it didn’t turn out that way. I love the look, but have to say the quality just wasn’t there.

      Good luck!

      Sheila

      1. Sheila- Thank you for the link. I was considering the exact set and have been wanting them for a long while. The details are so sweet, but I will keep looking. I appreciate that you always take time to respond in a timely manner. Enjoy August and all the US Olympic wins!

        1. Thank you Phyllis! I wanted them forever, too, which is why it’s so sad. I saved up and thought I was making an investment only to find them so horrible.

          Happy Summer to you:)

  3. Hi Sheila- Did you try to remove the flatware marks on your Juliska pottery with Barkeeper’s Friend paste? I also own a few Juliska patterns. You might consider contacting Juliska to report the issue. You can use the liquid or powder form of Barkeeper’s Friend. Rinse the items first, and while wet, apply the paste and let sit for 5-15 minutes. You can hand wash or rinse them off before placing in the dishwasher. Never use citrus based cleaners on Juliska. Hope this helps!

    1. Hi there Nan! I didn’t because I’m pretty sure that it will take the shine/luster away. It also seemed like a losing battle since every single meal they would just appear there again. These dishes look like I got them at the Goodwill and they were so expensive! Really a bummer!

Thanks so much for your suggestion though, I may try it and then just use them at the holidays!

      1. Hi Sheila- Barkeeper’s Friend is a gentle cleanser and won’t affect the finish on this fine art pottery. You don’t scrub it on the pottery, just let the paste sit on each piece and it removes the marks. I also own the Juliska Berry & Thread Whitewash pattern and haven’t had the issue with flatware marks. Stoneware interacts with metal and you might consider using different flatware. Hope this helps!

        1. Thanks for that info Nan. I do use Barkeeper’s for my sink and bathrooms and there is some abrasion but I will try it the way you suggested. My flatware has been used on at least 4 sets now and not one of them has had this problem, so sadly, it’s definitely the Juliska! Much cheaper to buy the new dishes than flatware so, that’s what I did!

Maybe I should buy new flatware too! I’ll tell my husband that was the problem, haha!

  4. Love your blog. Been reading for a good while. Love your taste in home and fashion. Always look forward to Friday Faves!! So envious that you live in CA. I’m in Charlotte, NC

    1. Aww thank you so much Kelia, you made my day! 🙂

      Happy Friday to you!
