Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, movies, podcasts, fashion finds and more! And though it won’t all be French, some of it definitely will!
It’s Halloween weekend! Do you all have any special plans? We don’t usually and this year is no exception. We did a lot when the kids were small, but now our teens/twenty-somethings go out with friends so the hubby and I will be home handing out candy, which I actually love! Last year we had one trick-or-treater so I’m hoping we have quite a few more this year – it’s so fun to see the littles in their costumes!
And now onto our Friday Favorites this week, where I share everything from a great decor find, to a favorite movie, recipe, or podcast, to a wonderful thing to wear – anything that strikes me as interesting or fun or that you might love, too! 😉
THINGS I LOVE IN DESIGN/DECOR
Gorgeous home design from Kate Marker Interiors. She has a way with stunning hallways!
Remember I talked a few weeks back about wanting to get some new everyday dishes? Well, now I’m onto the flatware! Both our dishes and our flatware are over a decade old and they’re really showing it. I love pewter style flatware – it’s got a great casual/chic vibe that really speaks to me.
This set is gorgeous, and this one is my dream, but they’re not dishwasher safe and are pretty pricey. So now I’m looking for a dupe that is less expensive. This set is super cute and definitely gives the look for much less, but it still says ‘hand wash only.’ And in the reviews on the expensive ones many people say they put them in the dishwasher! Decisions, decisions.
And of course, I’m thinking Christmas! Though I won’t be decorating for a few weeks, I’m starting to plan now. What I’m really loving is the idea of putting our family room tree in a basket. I love that look and I’ve never done it! This one seems perfect, I also love this one, and this one. And this one could be great with a smaller tree.
I’m also a huge fan of brass bells. I’ve used these for years and I love them, but I’m also ordering these adorable smaller ones and these look great, too. And I want a few vintage brass bells to use as ornaments on my smaller trees, or grouped together in bowls.
THINGS I’M WEARING/LOVING/WANTING
Last winter I really wanted a new wool coat, but I kept waiting and not ordering and before too long, everything I looked at sold out. This year, I’m determined not to let that happen!
I love J. Crew coats and this one’s a favorite (it’s been on every blog, seen on every celebrity, and featured in countless TV shows for a reason. Seriously it might be the cutest winter coat ever!) I’m also considering this one, or this one (and they’re all on sale!)
And speaking of missing things, I wanted to order the waterproof boots I shared with you a couple weeks ago, but they were sold out! But… I found them again! So excited and I just ordered them in black. I love that they’re stylish but also waterproof, how great is that? I also love these, this tall pair would be great for fall, and these are on sale! I’m gonna feel so ready for the rain when it comes, haha!
THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING/LISTENING TO
Do you guys subscribe to magazines? I had a friend over the other day and she was shocked at the pile I had on the table! I have to be honest, I still love them! I don’t think I’ll ever give them up. There’s just something about sitting on the sofa with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and looking through design mags. Also, they’re so cheap now!!
The ones I’m currently getting are Veranda, Milieu, Country Home, Martha Stewart Living, and Country Living. I also buy Country French when it comes out every year (it was just released!) It’s my absolute favorite!
And speaking of French country style, this new book was just released and it looks stunning! Sooo going on my Christmas wish list. 😉
THINGS I’M MAKING/EATING/DRINKING
Since it’s Halloween weekend, shouldn’t we talk candy? I’m not a huge candy eater anymore but I must admit, I used to be. Especially on Halloween. Funny story. When our oldest was about 4 and had his first real night of trick or treating, I proceeded to eat some of his candy after he went to bed.
I was going crazy, like literally eating everything in sight. Snickers, Butterfingers, Baby Ruth bars, Starbursts. These were all favorites from childhood and in my defense, I literally hadn’t had any of them in probably a decade or more.
But apparently I ate a lot of Starbursts. Like really a lot. Next thing I knew my tongue was bleeding!! Yes, bleeding. I’m guessing it’s because they’re so acidic but it was a little freaky, haha!
Share your favorite Halloween candy with me in the comments – I want to know. 😉 (And yes, I still love Starbursts – but I don’t eat nearly that many!)
To counter that unhealthy discussion, let’s talk about a ‘fairly healthy’ dinner that’s a favorite. This Turkey Meatloaf is nothing like your mom made. It’s delicious and even my kids love it!

I agree with you on the fun of looking at magazines. There’s something about holding a “book” in your hands and being able to really see all of the details. Viewing images online will never be the same thing for me.

Hi, I just went on line to purchase Country French magazine but all that was available was 2020. Where can I order 2021 issue, please?

Sheila,
I really enjoy the Friday Favorite posts. I love how you cover multiple topics.
I’m too a magazine junkie. You’re right, it’s something about holding those beautiful images in your hands. I wanted to mention ‘My French Country Home’ is one to definitely check out. The images in the magazine are absolutely captivating.
