Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

Well, we made it! We were back and forth for awhile, but decided to go on our trip, so as I type this we are in upstate New York. I’m so glad we decided to do it – we’ve had very little time together and almost no travel together this last year so it was much needed!

If you’re lucky enough to be going to a Halloween party this weekend, enjoy!

And now, let’s talk Friday Favorites!

THINGS I’M LOVING IN DESIGN/DECOR

Love this stunning kitchen! You can see the rest of this amazing home here.

Love these adorable brass-lidded canisters for the bathroom! Large here and small here. They are very similar to what I have in our primary bathroom but mine were much more at a local boutique!

When I shared the Target McGee Holiday line a couple weeks back, several things were either sold out or not available yet but now, they are! My favorites include this chunky knit tree skirt, this Christmas swag (ordered – I’m going to change out the ribbon), this unique dove artwork, and this brass metal laurel wreath has my French-loving heart!

Something else I’m really wanting to get this year is an Advent calendar. I fell for this one last year but it sold out before I could get it. So now I’m deciding between that one and this fabric one which I’m completely smitten with! I grew up with an Advent calendar every year and they feel very nostalgic for me.

And if you checked out my French Christmas Decor shopping guide, you may have noticed that I featured a Noël doormat on there and it turned out the punctuation was on the wrong vowel! A sweet reader pointed it out to me (I hadn’t even noticed), and I see that they’ve now pulled the item! Such a shame as it was so cute. But if you’re in the market for a French-inspired greeting on your porch, I’ve found two other adorable options on Etsy here (really love this one!) and here.

Last week’s best sellers: this little cypress tree (topiary style here) and these lit white birch trees.

THINGS I’M WEARING/WANTING

It’s coat season! Even though I live in California, I am such a coat person! Not only are they practical, but they can make even the simplest outfit look chic.

This double-breasted coat is a beauty and is 100% wool (almost unheard of!), plus it’s on sale for 45% off! I just ordered this slightly sportier wool coat (15% off) in the pretty olive color, the one I shared last week is so gorgeous (loving the burgundy but it comes in other colors, too), and this one is lovely and a great price.

The lady jacket trend continues to be strong and I’m loving this new faux-fur version (15% off). Soo cute for nights out, holiday parties, and more!

LOVE this adorable boucle turtleneck (30% off) – looks so cozy! Also love this turtleneck (on sale for under $50!)

Just bought these slim wide-leg sailor jeans and they are perfection (ands 45% off right now!) Not overly wide like some have been and so flattering!

I’ve been reading about neck scarves being back, and this week I was in J.Crew and the saleswoman was wearing one and it looked soo cute! During the early aughts I wore scarves all the time – in fact, I still have most of them so I’m planning on breaking some of them out again! Whether you wear a longer one around your neck, or a shorter one, they’re always chic!

Last week’s best sellers: these gorgeous burgundy booties (they come in other colors, too) and this stunning burgundy cashmere sweater (also comes in other colors).

THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING

I think I’ve shared before how much I adore Julia Child. Her cookbooks, and then later, her memoir, made me a huge fan. Her memoir in particular, My Life in France has stuck with me for years. It’s endearing, inspiring and just great fun. She was great fun! (And just to emphasize how universal that feeling is, I gave this book to my son’s girlfriend and she told me she cried when it ended!) 🙂

Anyway, having loved that so much, I was excited to hear that there is a new book about her, written by Paul Child’s great nephew. (Well, not new, but I just discovered it!) Her husband Paul Child was a prolific photographer and took many photos of her during their long marriage.

France is a Feast: The Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child, is a collection of intimate moments of their married life – a record of Julia, and their life in Paris. I keep hearing you see Julia Child as you’ve never seen her before – I can’t wait to get it!

THINGS I’M EATING/DRINKING

So you all know that I love anything pumpkin, but I guess I should clarify. When I say “I love anything“, I’ve always meant that to refer to ‘sweet’ pumpkin items, ie; pumpkin desserts, drinks, and the like. I’ve never even considered pumpkin in savory recipes! But if the reviews are to be believed, I’m missing out!

I’m dying to try this Chicken in Pumpkin Cream Sauce and/or this Sesame Pumpkin Butter Chicken (above). Have any of you tried a savory pumpkin recipe??
