Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration

Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

It’s such a weird time of year isn’t it? We’re dreaming of spring, yet many of us are still in the throes of winter. We’ve had so much rain and some really cold days (for California anyway!) But, I have to say, it’s spring inside my head. I’m counting the days!

So this week I’m sharing some spring favorites, as well as some ‘in-between’ things that will help bridge the time until warm weather is really here!

THINGS I’M LOVING IN DESIGN/DECOR

A recent discovery for me, designer Caitlyn Fleming knows how to create very personal spaces. See the rest of this home here.

Before I go any further, I have to share this gorgeous French-inspired side table that’s on closeout! Classic style and it’s solid wood.

This little ottoman is so chic for the price! Super highly rated and would be great for extra seating, to sit under a console table, and more.

Lemons always feel so spring-y to me, so I was happy to find these faux lemon stems in store when I was at Crate and Barrel last week. They look so real and just a few really fill a vase!

I’ve been wanting some wicker food domes forever and then last summer I finally found some, only to have them sell out before I could purchase. But I just found this one (comes in 2 sizes), and it’s part of the Serena & Lily 20% sale! This is one of those things I don’t want to sleep on again – if I wait until summer, they’ll be gone for sure.

Now that it’s almost spring, I decided to lighten up our bedding. I love our linen duvet cover but it is high-quality linen and as such, super heavy. So in an effort to lighten things up, I ordered this airy gauze duvet cover to replace it and we love it! (It also comes in a quilt version if you don’t have a down comforter).

I also switched out our winter blanket for this airy gauze blanket (it’s a dupe of the pricey Boll & Branch version). It’s perfect if you want some warmth without the weight. It’s also great for an end-of-the-bed throw for the same reason!

One of the prettiest rugs I’ve found – this wool area rug is a great price for hand-knotted!

How cute is this charming ruffled tray? It reminds me of one I bought in Provence from a little shop. All of their pottery and dishware was in this style (such a great price, too!)

This footed basket which I bought last year is now even lower! The shape is darling and the price can’t be beat (McGee used to carry it for twice the price!)

Random Amazon find that looks like Nancy Meyers!

Last week’s best sellers: this comfy mattress pad and this pretty rattan fruit bowl.

THINGS I’M WEARING/WANTING

Self-tie belted pants seem to be having a moment and I’m loving them. I just received this cute pair of khakis (currently 25% off), and I’m mad for this light-weight jean from Madewell. They are true ‘casual chic.’

So I know we talked about the fabulous show, Love Story, about the romance between JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Her iconic 90s style is now the talk of the internet (Duh. We were all there and know how fabulous fashion was then – and her!)

Anyway, as I’m also just a huge fan of her chic, simple style I love that Tuckernuck has devoted a whole section to emulating her style – complete with inspiration pics! If you love her style as much as I do, it’s worth checking out. Of note, this simple black dress. Classic, chic, flattering, and not expensive. Wedding, cocktail party, funeral – it just works.

You know the Ponte pants that have been dominating for a few months now? This pair looks like the Frame pair, except they are on sale for under $100! Ordered them to try.

Love this pair of wide-leg white denim (above) with the cute pockets (20% off)!

And though I may not be able to wear dresses quite yet, that doesn’t mean I’m not already looking. Really loving this striped linen dress (20% off)!

Spring wedding or event to go to? I adore this polka-dot dress at an unbeatable price!

You know I love a neutral bag for spring so I’ve been perusing. Hammitt has long been a favorite brand and now it’s carried at Nordstrom – really like this style, this pretty suede bag I looked at last month is now on sale!, and did you know Quince carries bags now? Love the braiding on this shoulder bag!

Last week’s best sellers: these cream penny loafers (2nd week in a row!) and these adorable wide-leg jeans.

THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING

There’s nothing I love more than snuggling up in a corner of the sofa and leafing through beautiful design books or magazines. Of course, the magazines are all but gone, but lucky for us, the design books are not!

Right now I’ve been struggling with trying to get the house finished, so I went looking for design books that could give me inspiration and ideas. Here are a few I ordered recently that I’m loving:

The Essentials by Caitlyn Fleming (above) talks about just that, the essentials you need to create designer-look spaces. I love the explanations and the traditional style homes they feature.

Home at Last: Enduring Design for the New American House by Gil Schafer (an Annie Meyers recommend).

Artful Home by Josh Young – love his home and his style.

And I also went back to Art of Home by Shea McGee. I hadn’t ever truly read it, and it has lots of good tips and advice.

THINGS I’M EATING/DRINKING

Pasta is on my mind! Not only do I love it, but I especially love lighter pasta dishes for spring, even better if they have asparagus, lemon, or both. This Lemon, Basil, & Asparagus Pasta looks yummy as does this Lemony Orzo with Asparagus & Garlicky Bread Crumbs.

Lots more Easy Spring Pasta Recipes from NYT Cooking (gift article).

  1. I think we are all ready for spring no matter what part of the country you live in! It’s warmer, sunnier, and springlike here today with a possibility of colder and snow over the weekend!

I was wondering about the Quince bedding. My issue is finding generously sized standard king duvets or any coverlet actually. We have a topper on our bed which makes it thicker and the sides always just barely cover. I’d love it to be longer or wider. I know if you have a queen size you can get a more generous look with buying a king, but what do you do when you have a king? Then I wash and dry it and I’m pulling at the sides trying to make it appear longer!😂

    1. I know what you mean JC, I’ve had bedding (especially sheets) that was not generous enough to cover our thick mattress. But I’ve been very happy with our Quince bedding! And haven’t found their king duvets or blankets to be short. FYI, they have free shipping and returns AND a 365 day return policy! So it’s easy to purchase and see if it works with no obligation. Obviously you can’t wash them and return them but you can try them out pain-free which I love!

      Happy weekend to you JC!
