Friday Favorites – Weekly Inspiration
Welcome to Friday Favorites, a series where we share our favorite decor, design inspiration, fashion finds, TV shows, recipes and more!

Well, it seems that we’ve skipped spring here in California and gone straight to summer. Not that I’m complaining, I’m definitely not. It’s just been a bit of a shock to the system! But, I guess it’s preparing me for Mexico, right?!
It’s also got me thinking about gardens non-stop as what we do have here has exploded over night! I’ve been pinning, reading gardening books, and buying some things (more on that below!)
Now let’s talk Friday Favorites!

THINGS I’M LOVING IN DESIGN/DECOR

Love this beautiful updated traditional home.
I’m not sure I’ve mentioned that we have much bigger yard here than we did in Southern California, and with the yard came a large home garden area – complete with raised garden beds! Currently we are just cultivating weeds, but hopefully soon we will be planting lots of herbs and vegetables!
To that end I’ve invested in a few pieces that will hopefully make me want to garden more! A girl needs good pruners and some sturdy and pretty tools. Honestly, it’s crazy how excited I am to use them!
As I mentioned last week, I had my design consult last Friday and she sent me on the hunt for some new furniture, a tweak in my accessories, and a glass or ceramic lamp. I didn’t think I even wanted a glass lamp, but then I brought a glass lamp down from the guest room to audition and now I think it will change our whole family room!
I’m considering this glass lamp from PB (20% off) or this pretty ceramic lamp (love the color – also on sale!)
You guys, how cool are these jewelry boxes that look like books?? They’re pretty but also such a great way to hide something in plain sight. Brilliant!
If you’re celebrating Easter, I’ve found a few cute items you might love. I’m completely smitten with this bunny toile pitcher and matching salad plates. You can see the whole line here – and it’s all 30% off right now! Love!
I just got this English country-style bunny pitcher after eyeing it for over a month – I love it’s old-fashioned charm! (I first saw it at McGee for way more!)
This bunny cheeseboard might be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, and this adorable bunny serving bowl that I’ve had for years is on clearance for 40% off!
Last week’s best sellers: these handpainted eggs (still on sale!) and this pretty botanical wallpaper.
THINGS I’M WEARING/WANTING

And of course, if I’m going to be gardening I need the proper attire, haha! (if you know me IRL, then you know how on-brand this is!) I bought a gardening apron, this textured straw hat (50% off!), and I couldn’t resist a cute bandana! 😉 I’m also putting these boots on my Mother’s Day wish list – I mean they’re worn by Duchess Catherine so who am I to argue?!
I’m in love with this seamed linen dress (above – 30% off). It’s so pretty in the blue, but I also love how chic the black is!
The slim cotton cardigan look is back! To me, it’s such a classic look. J.Crew has it in a lots of colors (30% off)
This sculptural gold bracelet is so chic – you don’t need any other jewelry! And it’s on sale for 40% off!
I’m constantly on the lookout for tops that hit that middle space, dressier than a tee, but not too dressy. This inset lace top (40% off) is so adorable, I’m mad for this gingham blouse, and this floral print top is so cheerful!
Do I need another baseball hat? Probably not. But that didn’t stop me from grabbing this charming hat with a French sentiment – how could I not??
Last week’s best sellers: so many of you loved this pretty floral dress (around $100!) and the perfect straight jeans from our French Fashion Essentials post.
THINGS I’M WATCHING/READING

Have you guys seen Mini Reni, the (fairly) new show with Joanna Gaines? It’s exactly what it sounds like. Small renovations with a small budget. I always love seeing what she creates and can’t believe I didn’t hear about this sooner! On HBO and Discovery.
THINGS I’M EATING/DRINKING

It’s spring! Which means things like asparagus, artichokes, and wild salmon. This Roasted Salmon with Green Herbs (above) looks easy yet yummy, and is an Ina Garten recipe I’ve never done! I’d also love to try this Mustardy Sheet Pan Salmon (NYT gift article).
And this Roasted Asparagus is delicious and one of our favorites!
RANDOM THOUGHTS

I started following a few new-to-me garden accounts on Instagram, including Potager Blog. And as it turns out, I had actually just purchased her book, The Elegant & Edible Garden, and didn’t even realize it! I mean, is that not the best title?
40 Films That Will Transport You to Italy (Note: many of these I’ve not seen but Only You is so good! It’s what made me want to go to Positano.)

Hi Sheila, please tell us more about your design consult— how it worked, what it cost, what it includes? Have you shared any photos of your new home here? If so, I missed them and am eager to share in your excitement.
Hi Debra!
It was great. You go to theexpert.com and can scroll through designers. They give background, style descriptions, and a few photos. Prices too. They vary. Some do only one hour consults, and others offer a “mini” session for 30 minutes. I looked at a few I was following on Instagram and knew their style well. I may do it again!
And no, I haven’t shared much of the house except for the kitchen. That was featured in my Christmas tour post so you can see it there. I will feature more once I’m done but I’ve still got lots to do!
Thanks for stopping by!
Sheila
Dear Sheila,
I have been loving your style for years. Clean, fresh and fabulous. I live in Brittany, France. Not the most stylish region of France, admittedly, but I have spent months in Paris in the past, and I have never seen homes like yours. The stores sell beautiful objects, and fabrics and home wares, but they are never assembled in a regular French home in the same way. I think your style is California meets France, in the best way possible! I’m trying to emulate it in my tiny but gorgeous 17th century town house!
Love the Maison de Cinq newsletters.
Cordialement, Hilary
Oh wow, thank you Hilary!! That is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me!
Your 17th century town house sounds fabulous to me – wishing you the best of luck with all of your decorating and making it a home!
Thank you for all your kind words, it is so appreciated!
