French-Inspired Fashion Fave: The Neck Scarf

Last year bandanas and neckerchiefs (when was the last time you heard that term?) started showing up during fashion week and also on some of the street-style stars and fashion bloggers.  If you aren’t aware of this, trends that start with high fashion or during fashion week sometimes die off and never hit the real street (us).

However, I have now been seeing neck scarfs showing up around town and on the web. This is a trend that I absolutely love. I mean, is there anything more classic than a chic little neck scarf to add polish to a casual outfit?

I was particularly into neck scarves in the late 90’s and actually kept most of them, so this trend is basically free for me (one time where my tendency to keep too much stuff has worked in my favor, haha!)

However, if you don’t have pack rat tendencies like me, this one can still be yours for a pretty small investment. But take note: these scarves are not the large silk neck scarves of the 70’s, nor are they the very large wool-type ones we’ve all been sporting the last few years.

These are small, either an actual bandana, or around that size. It’s a small knot, a small amount of fabric; nothing to overwhelm the wearer. I love the carefree, joie de vivre feeling that they add!

Her neck scarf is tied a little looser, but I love this look. So French!
I’ll definitely be digging out those 90’s scarves of mine! What do you think? Will you try the neck scarf?

  1. What a fun post…I love all the chic scarves! I have chosen this as one of my featured favs from last week's Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop. I will be featuring you on my blog this Thursday.

  2. I totally wore a neck scarf today, thought of this post! Bought a little neck scarf in Paris, have been waiting 'til the Spring to wear it (it is Spring colors).

  3. Haha, you are funny Karen! I'm sure it's not as bad as you think, but this trend is definitely good for all ages!

  4. Thanks for asking Shelley, and yes, I am much better!

And definitely break out those scarves! I've done the look several times already and I'm in love!

  5. This is timely for me, especially since I don't particularly like my neck at this stage in my life! 🙂 I'm so happy it's a "trend" that I can buy into.

  6. I think they are so cute! Like you, I tend to keep way too many things. I actually still have a few small scarves that I bought in Italy in 1995! Time to shop in my closet! Have a great weekend! We are very low key due to my husband's nasty cold. Hopefully the rest of us won't catch it! Are you feeling all better now?
