Guest Room Decorating Ideas & Inspiration

In this post we’re sharing lots of guest room decorating ideas, including three different mood boards to help inspire you in designing your own space. 

I’m sure you’ve noticed there’s been a lot of talk of guest rooms here on Maison de Cinq lately! Not only am I in the process of doing one as part of the One Room Challenge, but you also may remember me talking about our first guest room last year.

Well, that room is finally (mostly) done, so today I thought I’d share all the details with you! But, I’m not just showing you our guest room as it stands now, I’m also giving you more inspiration with several different guest room mood boards!

Although each of these mood boards has a similar French-inspired style, they’re all a little bit different. Each one features a different bed as the central piece in the room, creating a slightly different feel in each overall space.

First, let’s talk about the guest room and where it stands today.

This room is pretty small so I knew I wanted to choose a really pretty bed that would anchor the space. There was no use going with something smaller as it still wouldn’t allow for any other furniture in the space anyway!

So I thought it was better to choose a bed that would really feel indulgent for whoever is in the space, and this one does just that!

 

The upholstery is a linen-blend fabric in the perfect color! It’s always hard choosing fabrics online but in this case, I ordered samples from Wayfair first which was incredibly helpful. This is the “Talc Linen” color and I absolutely love it!

I also love that how versatile this bed feels. My style tends to lean a little more French, but this bed would work in everything from a transitional or traditional space, to even a very contemporary room.

And I love how tall it is! Many times the less expensive beds have very short headboards, but not this one. It’s the same height as our custom made headboard in our primary bedroom!

 

Once the bed was settled, I needed to find nightstands and that was actually the bigger challenge! I’m limited by the both the window and the closet door so this wall was my only choice when placing the furniture. I couldn’t go with anything too big, but I also didn’t want something that felt too dinky or child-like.

These are a generous but not huge size, and ended up being perfect! I love the French style and the color is the perfect greigy-brown. Not too dark, and not too light.

 

For the bedding I used a washed linen quilt in a pretty diamond pattern. I always like to keep the foundational bedding in solid colors so that I can change out the throw pillows or other bedding if need be. I also wanted bedding that didn’t feel too feminine or too masculine – not always an easy task!

But I think this bridges both and I’m really happy with how it turned out! Our pet sitter who stays in this room whenever we are out of town told me it was “like staying in a hotel.” Probably the nicest compliment I’ve ever gotten!

 

Below was my general idea when I started. A room that is transitional with a slightly French feel, done in neutrals with pops of blue.

And though I don’t have room for a bench or dresser, I included it just to give you an idea of how to complete the space.

The vintage artwork is temporary and I may change it out at a later date, and I’m waiting on the rug (just ordered it!) But overall I’m thrilled with how it’s come together!

Next up is another bedroom plan, one that skews towards a slightly more French style.

This mood board was inspired by the room I’m currently working on and hoping to have finished by the end of next month. And I’m strongly considering that adorable bench (the scallops!)

 

And lastly is another French-inspired style bedroom done with earthy greens as the accent color.

I literally had to create this mood board because I just love this bed! I mean, does it get any more gorgeous than this?!
