Prepping Your Home for the Holidays – Holiday Cleaning Tips

It’s that time of year! The holidays are here, which for many of us means entertaining. Not only hosting various parties, get togethers, or dinners, but if you’re like me, out-of-town guests are also a part of the season.

Of course, when guests come I always want the house to be clean. Washing sheets and re-making beds and the like are part of it, but I also like to make sure my floors are absolutely clean. We have many friends (and some family members) who are allergic to dogs, so I like to make sure that my floors are clean and fur free. So today I thought I’d share some holiday cleaning tips for getting your floors as clean as possible!

My floors are admittedly probably the dirtiest part of my house, especially here in the kitchen. We have kids and their friends going in and out constantly, not to mention a Golden Retriever who sheds like crazy! And this is also the area we spend the most time, visiting with family, sharing meals, and hanging out. So the floors are the area I like to concentrate on the most, especially when it comes to removing as much dog hair as possible!

I’m a big fan of the Bona® system. After vacuuming, I always make sure to mop the floors thoroughly with the Bona Power Plus® Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner spray. I use that with the Bona® Microfiber mop (which has an extra-wide head making it so easy to cover large areas quickly) and the microfiber cleaning pad. And the best part? The cleaning pads are machine washable and can be used over and over again!

Before I started using Bona, I was damp mopping with water and it actually ruined our hardwood floors. The polyurethane finish was wearing off and they looked so bad we had to have them re-finished. That was when my floor re-finisher recommended Bona, and I’ve used it ever since!

HOLIDAY CLEANING TIPS – HOW TO CLEAN YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

1. Vacuum! You want to do this frequently, and definitely before you do any mopping. The vacuum will get up a lot of the larger grit, and then you can use the Bona® system to do the really deep cleaning.
2.  Spray the Bona Power Plus® Hardwood Floor Deep Cleaner spray lightly but thoroughly over the area in front of you, and mop with the Bona® Microfiber mop. Continue with this until you’ve gone over all the areas you want clean.
3.  Relax knowing that your floors are beautifully clean and ready for company!

Quick and easy is what I’m all about this time of year. I love using Bona® and I love that it gives me the results I’m looking for. When family and friends visit, I know that my floors will be looking their best!

Because, let’s face it, no one wants to spend extra time cleaning when they could be spending time with those they love!
