If you’ve been reading here for awhile, then you know I’ve done the One Room Challenge twice before. Once when I redid our home office, and the second time when I revealed our new primary bedroom.

And I’m excited to share that I’m now about to do it for a third time! This time, I’ll be transforming our son’s room into a French-inspired guest room!

Though I find the time constraints stressful, I must say, I also find it so motivating! I’m such a procrastinator, so having a deadline is helpful for me. Without that, I have a tendency to leave rooms half done or never finished. This way, I know it will actually be done!

For those of you not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it’s a biannual event where anyone with an online presence is invited to join in the fun by adding their weekly progress to the website each week for eight consecutive weeks.

My plan is to be blogging about my progress every couple of weeks, and then also sharing periodically on Instagram so I hope you’re following me there as well!

And now onto the plan for our new guest room!

Our son has now decided to stay permanently in Seattle so with him not coming home, I decided to cheer myself up with decorating, haha! Kidding aside, we’ve never had a guest room as we only have four bedrooms and with five of us living here, they were all full.

But now, we’ll finally have a pretty room where guests can feel comfortable and pampered!

Before

Unfortunately I don’t have a wider shot of this room in its ‘before’ state, but this was the last change we made when my son was a teen.

Gray walls, blue bedding, and movie posters on two of the walls. A typical teen boy room if ever there was one, haha! I’m going to continue to look for a better photo and will add it if I find one!

Guest Room Inspiration

The idea of a mostly neutral room accented with soft gray/greens is speaking to me!

Or, I might actually paint the room in green! We’ll see if I’m brave enough to do it, but right now, I’m leaning that way!

Overall I’m going for a mix of neutrals and soft grey/greens that will make the space feel peaceful and serene. A simple upholstered bed, furniture in soft off-white or grey, pretty artwork, and a natural fiber rug.
