One Room Challenge Week 2 Master Bedroom: Changes & Back Orders!
Hello friends! Here we are at Week 2 of the One Room Challenge and my master bedroom plan! (You can read all about what I’m doing here). Sadly, I have already hit some snafus, haha! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised by this, but for some reason, I am! 😉
I have made some progress, though, more with decisions than with actual work being done! A lot of my week was spent shopping and researching, and dealing with changes and back orders. But before I show you some of the pretties that have been decided on, I’m going to walk you through what all needs to be done on the project.
Master Bedroom To Do
1. Strip, sand and clear coat (or paint?) the existing dark brown dresser
2. Chalk paint existing nightstands and have new marble cut for the tops
3. Make (or buy) headboard
4. Add picture frame molding to walls (This is new! I know!!)
5. Decide paint color & paint
6. Have chandelier moved to over the bed
Master Bedroom To Buy
1. Area rug
2. Bedding
3. Light fixture/chandelier
4. Artwork for wall next to bed
5. Bedside lamps? Not sure – may keep the ones we have and paint them, or replace. TBD.
6. Mirrors for over night stands
7. Small side table for next to chair
8. Accessorize!! (the fun part!)
One Room Challenge – Week 2 Progress
We’ve had a few problems this week, the first one being that so many of my items are backordered! Ugh!! The bedding I’ve chosen is all from Pottery Barn and a lot of it is on back order. And at all different dates! Some is available in a week, some in three weeks, but some of it wasn’t available until June! So, like the last ORC, it’s a decision of having it done in time vs. getting something that isn’t my first choice. I really love what I picked so I’ve just ordered it and am hoping it will be here in time!
My other huge problem is the headboard. I had chosen one, but my problem is I have a California King bed. Who knew these were rare outside of California?!! Most of them are special order, if they are even carried at all! Right now I’m hoping to custom order one from a small, local company but if that can’t be done, guess who will be making one? At least I’ll save some money, right?!
And that number 4 To Do!! I know, right?! I never even mentioned it last week, but it’s been burning in the back of my mind for awhile now. To be honest, I didn’t have the budget to pay someone to do it. And my husband has been swamped so I didn’t want to spring this on him last minute. So I didn’t. And then I did. I asked him, and he said yes! So we’re planning to do some simple picture frame molding to add some architectural interest to the room. Something like the one below…
My friend Shelley’s bedroom via Crazy Wonderful.
So that we will start tackling (and by we, I mean him!) next week! 😉 I still need to decide if we are just doing the main wall, or the whole room. Another TBD. What do you all think? Just the main wall like she did above – or do I try to finish the whole room? (poor Mr. Maison!)
The good news? A few things have been ordered! I decided on the gorgeous rug below from Pottery Barn.
I’m in love with the soft, subtle colorings and I think it will add just enough interest and texture, while still being very neutral.
The other decision I made is to not get a chandelier. You have no idea how sad this has made me! I’m such a chandelier person, and I dreamed of a gorgeous French country style one for the space. But with my short 8′ foot ceilings, it’s just next to impossible to get one that works with the height. I went back and forth, and back and forth again. But as of now, I think I’m going to go with one of the two light fixtures below…
Even though they aren’t the chandelier I dreamed of, I do think the touch of gold in them will be nice in the space. And it will tie in the frames of the artwork, as well as add some contrast.
So here’s my already updated mood board. I’m thinking that’s a bad sign – my mood board never changed last time, and this time, it’s changing one week in!

And so it continues! I’ll be back next week with another update! In the meantime, you can see all of the other bloggers and designers linking up for Week Two here!

I think it so scary to redecorate a room simply because seeing it in my mind is so much easier than looking at the samples and making the final decisions!
Yes, so, so true!! 🙂
Hi Sheila! I’m totally in love with every single thing on your mood board and love the light you’ve picked out! Like you, I’m torn as to whether you should put the picture frame molding on every wall or not? Either way it’s a great idea and adds so much class to a room, In my opinion. I just wish I had the type house where I could get away with something like that! I cannot wait until the Big Reveal! I already know it’s going to look fabulous! I’m so grateful for your blog with French flair! While I like elements of the farmhouse revolution that’s taken over IG, I’m absolutely Starved for more French style decor!! Keep on posting because there’s a lot of us French decor loving people out there! Have a great day! 😊
Aww I can’t even tell you how much your comment warms my heart! French lovers unite!!! 🙂
I appreciate your kind words so much, and am so happy you get inspiration from the blog! I hope you’ll subscribe, too, so you don’t miss a post! We’re deciding today whether to do the woodwork on every wall, or just one, so we’ll see….
Thanks again for stopping by!

Your choices are beautiful Sheila! I’m doing a dining room, picking artwork is always hard, right?!
Thanks so much! I have a hard time picking because what I like always seems to be expensive, haha!!
Good luck with your dining room Denise!
Sheila
I think you should do all four walls. It’s not just an accent but a classic touch. In older homes/ upscale homes, you will not find just one wall done up.
I look forward to what you’re doing with your existing furniture pieces. I have a quality matched set. I still like the lines but want to break up the matched look. I already replaced the headboard with an upholstered bed. I’m torn between painting the night tables…
Yes, you are so right! Though this 1970s house with no character is hardly an older upscale home, haha!! I’m thinking (though not positive) that we may start with the one and depending on what we think, and how willing my hubby carpenter is, do the rest! And I think it’s great to paint part of a set. That way you break it up and make it a little more up to date! Good luck!
And thanks so much for following along!
Sheila
Your decisions are all great. Don’t you just gasp when items are backordered and you need them. Better off waiting and getting what you really want and when they come you’ll be happy
Cindy
haha, YES!! I mean, almost everything I picked was backordered!! But you’re right, I’d rather wait and get what I want – it’s just hard when I want it all to be done for the reveal!
Thank you so much for following along – I so appreciate it!
Sheila
