Outdoor Patio Decor: Simple & Pretty Summer Refresh
Is your patio looking a little tired and in need of a refresh? Today I’m sharing some easy tips for updating your outdoor patio decor so your outdoor space is ready for a season of entertaining and fun!
Every year it seems summer sneaks up on me a bit. At least when it comes to the outdoors. A few weeks ago I added some summery pillows to the living room, and freshened up the kitchen and family room with blues and whites and some seasonal decor.
But the backyard was another story! It was still a mess from the winter; with dirty furniture, lots of leaves and debris, and of course, dead plants in every pot! 😉
It was really in need of a refresh. So, I changed up some of our outdoor patio decor, dusted and cleaned and scrubbed, (and cleaned some more), bought a few flowering plants, and voilá!
It’s like a new space!
The pillows were new from Serena & Lily last year and are still going strong – all they needed was a good wash! Both the pillows and the outdoor rug have lasted well and don’t seem to be fading even though they’ve been out all year. Yay for that!
I also made a big change with our furniture. I decided to swap the dining and living sides, and I’m so glad I did. It seemed we were always fighting the sun – no matter whether we wanted to eat or relax, it seemed the side we were on was in the sun!
However, by switching the dining area with the living area, I solved both problems at once. Not only are both of them more comfortable now, with less direct sun at inopportune times, but the dining area is closer to the bbq as well as the door, which makes serving dinner easier.
And the outdoor living area is now next to the fountain, which is also better. The fountain is actually pretty loud so having it next to the dining area was a little inconvenient. Now the dining area is farther back and quieter, and when I’m reading or relaxing with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, I get to sit right by the fountain, which I love!
I cleaned up all the planters and added fresh blooming plants to the outdoor coffee table, which made everything immediately feel more alive!
Of course, adding flowering plants brightens up any space! To be honest, I think it’s probably the single most important component when it comes to freshening up any outdoor space.
I also did a little refresh on the dining table! I added some fresh flowers in a vintage French pitcher, a wicker demijohn, and my favorite lantern to create a vignette.
Next I’d really love to add a sofa or sectional to our outdoor living area, but for now, it feels refreshed and is definitely looking better than a week ago!
I hope this gave you some ideas on how you can freshen up your own outdoor patio decor with just a few changes!
Rearranging the furniture, adding pots and planters full of blooms, or even some new pillows can make a huge difference. And of course, some good old-fashioned cleaning doesn’t hurt either! 😉
Happy Summer!
