Outdoor Patio Refresh: 3 Small Changes that Made a Big Impact!
Who isn’t looking forward to outdoor living this summer?! Our outdoor space was looking a little tired, so this simple outdoor patio refresh was just what I needed to get excited to spend some time outdoors this season!
It’s true. My outdoor space was looking pretty bare and tired.
There were no more pretty blooms. And the outdoor pillows were faded and worn.
It needed a little refresh. And with a few new outdoor pillows, an outdoor rug and a few pretty pots and planters, it looks so much better! And I’m so excited to share with you the small changes that made such a difference!
My outdoor pillows were quite a few years old, and really showing their age so the first thing I did? Ordered new outdoor pillows from Serena & Lily. I love their products, and they make such adorable outdoor items!
The previous pillows were also very dark grey and I wasn’t loving the color anymore. They didn’t seem to do anything for the chairs, and I wanted a little less contrast, and a more serene look.
I love the new pillows! The wide stripe is such a classic, and the soft grey is just what I was looking for to soften up the patio.
I love that they add a bit of freshness but the effect is still subtle – I didn’t want a huge color statement so these were perfect. They’re also made of weather hardy fabric so they can withstand the elements out here without me worrying or having to bring them in.
And we added an outdoor rug!! I’ve never had an outdoor rug before. And can I say? I’m definitely a convert.
I love the softness it brings, both literally and figuratively.
The pattern is subtle but just enough to add some pretty detail.
It really makes it feel like an outdoor living space, while also feeling super cozy and soft on our feet. Even Hudson seems to love it because he’s on it almost every day now!
I also refreshed the pots with some new blooms. This is something I usually do every summer, and it makes such a big difference. There’s nothing like some flowers to freshen up a space, right?
New pillows were also added to the outdoor chaise lounges which is so nice! We didn’t have any over on this side before and I love that I can lie in the sun and also be comfy at the same time!
I picked a grey stripe again, but one that’s a little different than the ones in the lounge area.
And they’re reversible! You can use either a horizontal or a vertical stripe just by switching sides.
Thanks for coming along for my outdoor patio refresh! I hope this gave you some ideas on how you can freshen up your own spaces with just a few changes. I’m sharing some links below to the items that I used, as well as a few other summer favorites!

I do love these patio items. Your backyard looks so nice..
I have a beautiful Avignon fountain with the rusty iron spouts and Connecticut blue stone 2″ pavers in our small and intimate backyard. I wanted to have an elegant and cozy feeling. Do you have any furniture suggestions? In Provence I see wicker, iron and stone used. So hard to decide on whether to have all the same furniture style or to mix the wicker with the iron? Thank you for any advice.
Hi Marjorie! First of all your backyard sounds lovely! And I’m a big believer in mixing! You would never have all matching furniture throughout your whole home, so why should your outdoor furniture be any different? I think wicker and iron work beautifully together and have it myself! You can do the “lounge” furniture in one style and the dining in another. My only tip would be to stick to just two different styles so that it doesn’t get too busy. Good luck to you!

We have been freshening up our outdoor areas this year and have mostly focused on our front porch, but I would like to focus on our patio next and I was getting stuck on which rug to put out there. I love your pick! Thanks for always inspiring me with your lovely ideas.
Thanks for your kind words Gina! This rug is SO cozy and soft – it’s hard to believe it’s an outdoor rug!!
