Today coffee table styling is on my mind. I’m one of those people who once I start thinking about something (design-wise, anyway… or clothing-wise :)) I become a little obsessed. I was literally up until after midnight the last few nights looking online and at pins on Pinterest for interesting ways to style a coffee table. I recently purchase a new one and it’s twice the size of the old one so I’m feeling like I want to add a little bit. I don’t like them too full (and the hubby usually doesn’t like too many things “in his way”) but I don’t like a big empty table either. My new table is a full 48″ x 48″ so that’s a pretty big space if there is nothing on it. There are a few things I noticed that were consistent in the tables I liked:
Friday Favorites – Macarons
French macarons… is there a more beautiful cookie in the entire world? The first time I tasted one, I have to say, I was surprised. I expected it to be crispy, and it certainly was crisp on the outside. But the chewiness of the inside, now that was a surprise. A great one is crispy on the outside but has that distinctive chew on the inside. And that little ruffled edge that sticks out around the bottom? It has a name! (Of course, it does! The French have a name for everything, especially when it comes to food and/or cooking!) That is called the “foot” and they are not considered correct unless they have “feet”. In Paris, the Laduree chain of pastry shops is surely the most famous maker of macarons in the world (many, many pins have been devoted to the photographs of it’s beautiful displays). And because it’s Paris, even McDonald’s sells macarons in their McCafes!! So, because it’s Friday, and for no particular reason other than they are beautiful, here’s to the wonderful, the French, the delicious….macaron…. Enjoy!

Dying eggs is something I have always looked forward to, ever since I was a little kid. Sometimes I think I like it even more than my kids do! However, this year my daughter and I decided to do some special, more “crafty” dying as her brother is away in D.C. for spring break. Maison de Cinq is actually Maison de Trois, at least for this week. So, we decided to try two different ideas. One was to use household items (ie; electrical tape, string, rubber bands, etc) and do different designs on the eggs, dye them and then remove the items leaving white designs on the otherwise colored eggs. The other was to do marbleized eggs, which we’ve actually done before but I think is so cool that I wanted to try again. Here is how some of them turned out…..
Friday Favorites – Bunny Love
Checkmate!
Normally I would not consider myself a “gingham person” (whatever that is) but somehow things have changed. It all started last Spring when I decided I had to have a black and white gingham shirt. I’m sure this was due to some pin that I saw on Pinterest, but nonetheless, I searched for weeks before I finally found one as there was not a lot to be found last year. Cut to Spring 2015 and lo and behold, gingham is now “in”! I have seen it everywhere and in all kinds of forms. Mostly black and white, but some navy and red have popped up as well. And this is not your grandmother’s gingham! These pieces are stylish, and this classic pattern feels new again (as long as you don’t wear it head to toe… though I’ve seen that too!) Personally, I really prefer it in black and white or navy and white. There is something just so clean and fresh about black and white together for Spring and this puts it all in one package! Here are some inspiration photos:
Friday Favorites – Converse
Not a very original post, I’m sure, but I have to share my love of Converse All-Stars. They are my absolute favorite sneaker. I have been wearing them for years, and I’m sure I will never stop. I’m very much a creature of habit with basics (been wearing the exact same bra for years.. well, you get the picture). They are comfortable and they look so cute with casual outfits. Here is to a classic, that just gets better and better! (And I love them on guys too!)
