If you’re anything like me, this last month or so of winter really starts dragging. Cold weather and gloomy skies can get old, especially if you’re spending more time inside! So why not give your home a little refresh? We’re not talking big changes here, like re-covering furniture or re-painting.

These are simple ways to lighten, brighten, and bring in some cheer – just in time for spring!

And if you’re looking for transitional spring decor to brighten up your home, Wayfair is the perfect resource! They are one of my favorite sources for all things decor, and right now they’re having their Spring Savings Event with up to 70% off and fast shipping!

Bring in Spring Elements

One of my favorite ways to bring spring to the kitchen is with fruit and foliage. Citrus is especially nice this time of year as it’s bright, cheerful, and it’s in season!

Mounding lemons in a large wood bowl or displaying lemon branches will bring some much-needed freshness during these last weeks of winter. They’re the perfect bridge to spring!

Tip: when I add lemons to a bowl, I use a few real ones on top and then add lots of quality faux ones underneath. No one’s the wiser and it helps fill it out without spending a fortune! Plus, they last longer! 😉

Plants always bring a brightness to a space, especially when it’s still gloomy or cold. This new thyme topiary is so charming – love the way it looks on the breakfast room table! I’ll also typically add a few live plants as well.

A charming terracotta pot immediately makes me think of spring and things growing!

Refresh with New Accessories

Whether you change out your throw pillows for springy colors and florals, or add a rustic vase with real (or faux) branches, it’s amazing how much these small changes can brighten up a room.

I added some green floral pillows to the living room sofa and I love the soft spring vibe!

This gorgeous vase has such a great look! The distressed finish looks vintage, and it’s the perfect gray that’s warm and not too blue. And these faux branches are one of my favorites!

I’m sharing a few more vases and faux stems I love below.

Brighten Your Spaces with New Lighting

Our main living areas were really lacking in lighting sources, something made much more noticeable in the shorter, darker days of winter. Since we’re getting less light than in summer, I knew it was time to add some reading lamps to both our living and family rooms.

I’m loving this distressed ceramic lamp we chose for the living room. It’s one that is used repeatedly by some of my favorite designers (always a good sign!) Plus it’s made it way easier to read in here as we previously had no table lamps at all!

If you don’t have at least 3 sources of lighting in a space, make sure to add some. Every room should have an overhead (ambient) light source, task lighting (like reading lamps), plus accent lighting (sconces, picture lighting, etc).

And since artful/unique lighting is one of the 2025 Design Trends we talked about earlier this month, it’s the perfect time to get something that not only brightens your space, but also adds some interest.

In the family room I added the rustic table lamp above that has a worn, vintage look to it. I’m sharing even more lighting choices perfect for adding some flair below!

Lay New Foundations

If it’s something you can do, it’s always nice to refresh with new rugs. Whether that’s changing a dark, heavy area rug to something lighter, or simply adding a new scatter rug or runner to the kitchen, brightening up the foundation is a great way to lighten the space.

A couple of months ago we changed out the seagrass rug in the living room to this wool rug and love it. The pattern is subtle and includes a mix of lots of neutrals so it’s very versatile!

And you know how I feel about a kitchen runner! Kitchen runners are something I love all year long, but if you don’t already have one, spring is the perfect time to bring in a lighter toned pattern. Or add a stripe! I love a striped runner, especially in a kitchen or laundry area.

There’s no need to go overboard to refresh your home for spring. By simply adding texture, lighting, accessories or spring elements you can create a cheerier space that will bring a smile to your face until those flowers and birds start appearing!

I’m sharing sources for everything above, as well as lots more spring favorites!
