Simple Summer Tablescape in Blue and White
Hello everyone and welcome to the summer edition of the Styled + Set Entertaining Blog Hop! I’m thrilled to again be joining an amazing group of 21 bloggers, hosted by Lory of Designthusiasm. This season, we are all sharing how we entertain for the summer! Today I’m sharing a simple summer tablescape in blue and white.
Originally when I started planning this tablescape, I thought I would do something patriotic for Independence Day. However, the more I thought about it, the more I thought it might be more useful for you to see a tablescape that can be used all summer long.
And since I’ve been loving blue and white lately, that’s what I decided to do. A casually elegant blue and white tablescape that can be used for a summer dinner party, brunch, pool party, or bar-b-que. You could even use this for the Fourth of July by simply swapping out the blue napkins for red and adding some red flowers!
Simple Tablescape in Blue and White
As I always do, I started with my salad plates. These aren’t new, but I absolutely love them and I’ve never done a table around them before. And since I wanted to feature blue and white for this table, I knew they’d be perfect!
I found this amazing nubby runner at Pottery Barn and I knew it would be perfect. I’m always looking for cute runners and I fell in love with this one! It’s layered over my “go-to” outdoor tablecloth, a drop cloth from the hardware store, and I love the texture it adds.
I wanted to mix crisp and fresh blue and white, with some natural textures and white flowers added.
To get that “farm fresh” feel, I bought the most casual white flower I could find at Trader Joe’s and plopped them in a large glass jar.
As I mentioned before, I already had the salad plates and I knew I would layer them over my white dinner plates. Originally, I was also going to add some wicker chargers, but with the runner, it felt like it was just too much and not the simple look I wanted, so I nixed those.
The napkins were a lucky find! I’m in love with their denim blue color, and I love mixing patterns. And they would be perfect for the Fourth as well. I could see using a red placemat with them for a traditional patriotic table!
The placemats match my plates perfectly, and they were also something I had in the closet. I had purchased them a couple of months ago but hadn’t used them yet! I found these at Home Goods, but I’ve sourced some that are almost the exact look here, here, and here.
And of course, because I was aiming for casual, I set up the table in the backyard. Perfect for a summer dinner party, bar-b-que or even a brunch!
This giant glass jar vase is an old one from Home Goods, but you could use any casual glass vessel. I’ve sourced a great old demijohn looking vase, and how cute are these canning jar vases?! You could line them up with flowers along the center of the table and get a similar look.

This is so pretty! I love those placemats combined with those cute salad plates and napkins. The nubby runner is the perfect solid backdrop to all of the pattern and your flowers are the perfect addition to the tablescape keeping it more casual. Very well done!

Sheila, I have been searching for blue linens for my kitchen forever and LOVE the patterned placemats and plaid napkins. From your comments it sounds like they are no longer available where you purchased them, but is there a brand name on the back of the placemats and napkins? I would do a search for them if I knew the company that made them. Thank you very much for your time.
Hi Jan,
So glad you love the table! Yes, unfortunately, the placemats and the napkins are both discontinued, but I linked several that were very similar so you could create the same look. The placemats have no name (they are printed on both sides) but they were originally from Home Goods. The plaid napkins were originally Pottery Barn.
Hope that helps!

Sheila, I am crushing big time on those denim napkins! Love the cool breezy look with the white flowers, mixed patterns and burlap runner, but I’m especially nuts over those candlesticks!! Where are they from? They are awesome!
Aww Lory, thanks so much! I love those napkins too! I thought they were such a good find – and could be used in so many ways! Couldn’t resist them:)
And the candlesticks were from Home Goods a couple of years ago! Always something good to find there!
Thanks again for hosting Lory!
