Even as the world has changed dramatically in just a few weeks, some things remain the same. Our need to connect. To break bread together. So though we may not be able to have the dinner parties or have friends over the way we usually would, we can (and should) still celebrate together!
Family dinners are more important than ever, so why not set a pretty table and make them special? Today I’m sharing a sweet and simple spring table setting that would be perfect for making a weeknight dinner feel more special. And when we are back to our normal lives, it would make a great setting for a spring get together, dinner party, or Mother’s Day!
I don’t know about you, but doing some of the things I did before are helping me to feel more “normal.” Whether that’s creating a table setting with what I have here, cooking with my kids, listening to inspiring podcasts, or binge-watching a new show with my husband, all of these remind me that I’m still me.
That we are together. And that a pretty table, or some flowers, can bring a smile to our faces or lighten our load, if only for awhile…
With this table setting, I was all about using what I already had. Simple and easy, but still pretty, was the goal.
I lined up some of my vintage ironstone pitchers and filled them with some grocery store flowers. I simply picked what was there – my only criteria was color!
White hydrangeas, chamomile and some eucalyptus feel fresh, and remind me that spring is here.
The cute blue floral plates I got last fall at Home Goods. Fell in love with the sweet and charming print, and I knew they’d be perfect come spring!
The “chargers” are white-washed seagrass placemats. I’m sure you’ve seen me use them before and they’re one of my favorites. They are casual, wipe up easily, and I love that they go with anything!
I bought these years ago, but I’ve found very similar ones in several places.
And how cute are these little chalkboard place cards? They were a Christmas gift from a friend and it’s the first time I’ve used them, and I know it won’t be the last! They’re so charming – and they add a little extra special touch.
I wouldn’t use these for a family dinner, but I definitely will be bringing them out at our next get-together!
The denim napkins were a great find at Sur la Table – they go with everything and wash so well! These are a couple of years old but they’re still going strong.
I hope this inspires you to create your own spring table setting ~ even if it means setting it for just you and your husband, or your immediate family. There’s no reason our family dinners should feel less special than those we spend with friends or at parties!
And when our lives go back to normal, I know we’ll truly appreciate the times we gather together – to drink, eat, celebrate, and communicate.
I’m going to spend some of these empty weeks planning and playing with some spring table settings, and I can’t wait until we can have friends over again!
In the meantime, my family will have some prettier than usual tables! 😉
With love,
Sheila
