I love summer entertaining, it’s probably my favorite thing about the season. Dining outside, lingering over good conversation with friends, spending an evening in the backyard. These are all a big part of summer for us. However, I don’t know about you, but our weather is not always cooperative! Especially in these early summer months of May and June. Our days are gloomy, grey, and even rainy. But of course, we still want to entertain!
So today I’m sharing a simple yet elegant summer table setting. I’ve set this dinner up in our dining room, ready for those dinners in early summer when it’s still just a little too cool to eat outside. I’ve kept the theme light and airy with touches of blue, and lots of white roses from our garden (that’s what the rain is good for!) 😉 But of course, if you’re lucky and your weather is warmer than mine, you could easily incorporate any of these elements to a backyard fête as well!
I’m also joining 20 other bloggers sharing summer table settings and entertaining ideas – so be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for even more inspiration!
Since I love blue and white for summer, I used that as my jumping off point. I wanted fresh, crisp and classic – and easy!
For the centerpiece, I used some of my ginger jars filled with white roses. I love that the ginger jars feel more elegant, but the wood chargers and striped napkins keep the table more casual. You know my love of that casual chic mix, I feel like it is the essence of my style. Mixing the more casual elements with a few dressier pieces makes for the perfect balance.
The braided rope napkin ring is another casual touch and continues the summery theme.
The roses in the ginger jars are white Iceberg roses from our yard. As you know, I buy a lot of flowers and I love doing so. But it’s so nice to use what’s in the garden this time of year! It was not only easier than doing something more complicated, but also cheaper. I mean, it doesn’t get cheaper than free, right?!
The wood-grain chargers are from Sur la Table and they are one of my favorites! They’re so versatile – they literally work with any table I put together!
I’m definitely crushing on these ginger jars lately. I remember a couple of years ago they were all so expensive, but not anymore! I found lots of cute ones – some at amazing prices!
I love the fresh feeling of this table, and I definitely plan on doing a version of this outside once it warms up a bit!
Hopefully this easy yet elegant summer table setting gives you some ideas for seasonal tables of your own. And I hope we all get some lovely warm nights to enjoy with friends and family soon ~ the best part of the season!

I was looking for all white tablescape ideas and came across this post. Blue and white and chinosiere are some of my favorite elements to use at home, too! What really caught my eye was the napkins! I use those same napkins as our everyday napkins. It made me smile to see them on your table! It is always a pleasure to stop by Maison de cinq and see what you have been up to!

Aww that’s so kind – thank you Chloe!!

These photos are gorgeous – thank you for sharing them. I’m obsessed with blue and white ginger jars and I’ve amassed a large collection over the years. The resources that you link to are very reasonable, but over the years I’ve purchased every piece in my collection at yard sales, thrift stores and the local Goodwill for nearly nothing. Being patient and focused pays off when you are decorating on a budget, and what a thrill to find a treasure like these! Thank you for the inspiration!!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the post Marie!! I too have a few but I’d love to find more!! Goodwill and thrift stores are a great idea if you have good ones near you!
Thanks for stopping by!

Beautiful table! I also, LOVE decorating with blue and white but have to say that the $50-$100+ ginger jars suggested would be WAY out of my or most price ranges and not what I could consider inexpensive. I’ve found my collection at estate sales and thrift stores through the years.
Sheila says
HI Deb and thanks so much! And yes, I agree. I consider $100 to be on the pricier side as well, but that’s why I sourced some that are as low as $30 range. I do find that a few years ago all of them were over $100 and even $200 so I think anything $50 and under is pretty good! But if you get them at thrift stores or estate sales, that is definitely better!

It’s hard to believe that the roses are real! They are so full they look like the artificial flower bunches you can buy. It’s too early for roses here in New England but it won’t be long. The blue and white urns are everywhere and so affordable right now. Great plan for the summer.
Sheila says
That’s so funny! I can definitely assure you they are real – my bushes are exploding right now because we had so much rain this winter!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
