Did you watch the Royal Wedding? I must admit, I love this kind of thing! I taped it as it was too early on the West Coast, but I spent the whole morning being anxious to sit down and actually take it all in! I remember my mom waking me to watch Princess Diana get married, and I had so much fun watching Kate and William’s with my daughter.
And though I love the fairytale aspect (who doesn’t?), this couple in particular are more than that to me. I think the reason everyone seems to love them is their very modern romance. Not only are they equals who seem to be very much in love, but she is the first person of mixed race to be accepted into the royal family. She’s also the first American, the first divorcée. She represents a new kind of inclusion, which in our too often hatred-filled world, is a wonderful thing to see.
And they give back. They use their platforms, both together, and separately before they met, to bring awareness to several different causes and charities. Meghan’s wish to work to empower girls and women is one especially close to my heart.
So I for one am rooting for them! I look forward to seeing them do great things together. I can’t think of two better role models for the young generation… royal or not.
And now onto the party!
Here’s what Kelly, Jennifer, Susan, Kristy, Julie & I have been up to this week…
Now let’s check out this week’s features…
Holliday, author of the blog Home with Holliday, shares a giant dose of Lilac eye-candy as well as many helpful tips for pruning and enjoying lilacs.
I was so disappointed when my favorite smoothie stand near us closed down. They had the most amazing açaà bowls. Thankfully, Sarah of Life, Love and Thyme teaches us how to make our own with her Açaà Bowl Recipe.
Lindsey, of Repurpose and Upcycle, shows us how she used chalk paint to transform a desk and chair to achieve a light and airy beach feel. So charming, isn’t it?!
