Hi all, and happy Wednesday! Hope you’re all enjoying your week. I’ve been busy getting my youngest settled back in school, and we spent this past weekend bringing my daughter back to college for her sophomore year. I tell you, it doesn’t get any easier!
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays, and I also hope you’ve had a chance to do some relaxing and unwinding after the busyness of the season.
As each year comes to a close, I usually take this last week to relax and recharge. And also, to take stock. One of the things I like most about blogging is the fact that everything is documented; it’s fun to go back and look at what I was doing, interested in, and talking about during the different points of the year. And, I love seeing how each post has done. It’s sometimes surprising to see what post did the best, and what people responded to the most (and those two are not necessarily the same!)
There is nothing quite like the perfect arm chair in a living space. And of course, since I’m partial to French style in general, I just adore a good Bergére chair! They’re versatile, classic, and comfortable (which not all armchairs are). For those of you not familiar with it, a Bergére is a chair designed in the Louis XV style, with an upholstered back and arms, and fitted with a loose tailored seat cushion. These antique French chairs typically featured wood frames that were either gilded or painted and were upholstered with fine fabrics.
I love a good Bergére chair. I think they are actually the ideal piece of furniture. They are stylish and comfortable. More cozy than an arm chair yet not like some upholstered chairs that practically swallow you when you sit down! For that reason, I would say they are more conducive to a living room than a family room. You can sit in them comfortably, yet still have a conversation. In a family room, you want to sink into your chairs! Of course, I love the antique ones the best, however, there are many retailers selling them now with chippy/distressed finishes so you can always get that antique look if you want it.
