There is something so crisp and clean about Spring, and I think that extends to dressing as well. White is one of my favorite colors (I’m sure you’ve noticed that!) I love it in decor, obviously, but it’s one of my favorite colors to wear as well. And I especially love denim with white. Maybe the reason I love it so much is it’s representative of the blue and white in decor that I’m so fond of. And denim with white is a near perfect combo. Just like blue and white in decor, it’s a fresh take on the season that reads “Spring” loud and clear!
I’ve been planning on writing a post about the biggest and best spring fashion trends, but this one I’m loving so much, I just had to give it it’s own post! I’ve been ignoring the flared jean trend pretty hard…. up until now. Two reasons: First, I’m a definite skinny jeans girl and second, I really don’t want to have to buy all new jeans!
I love a good denim shirt. It doesn’t matter if it’s thicker denim a la J. Crew with an authentic snap front or a thinner chambray style, they are an all-round, crowd-pleasin’, wear-with-anything staple. I’ve especially loved the trend of the last couple of years of “denim on denim”. Mind you, had you told me a few years before that I would wear mixed denim, I would have thought that there was no way. But I love the look. Personally, I like it more when the denims are not the exact same wash, so that there is some separation between the top and the bottom. But denim shirts are good for more than just the denim-on-denim trend. They are great with white or black. You can dress them up with a great skirt or heels. Or, you can use them with something really dressy to take down the “dressiness” of the other item. And they go really well under a blazer (and we know how much I love those:)) They are just so versatile. And they have an innate ability to look cool and relaxed while still looking pulled together. And who doesn’t like that?
Traditionally, white jeans (well, white anything, actually) were only worn in summer. “No white after Labor Day” was a rule that women followed religiously. As you may know, these rules no longer apply. White jeans, white shoes, white bags, can all be worn all year. It’s just a matter of what you pair them with. And though I will always love white jeans in summer, I have become a convert to wearing them all year. They have the ability to brighten up grays, look amazing with browns and tans, and of course, always work with classic black. Plus, you get more use out of them that way!
I figured since 70’s style flare jeans seem to be coming back in style that I better write this “favorite” post now, before it’s too late and it seems way too dated! Mind you, I am consciously ignoring this so-called trend, just hoping against hope that it fades quietly away. Meanwhile, I don’t know about you, but I am definitely still wearing my skinnies and have no plans to re-buy a whole closetful of jeans. So, this look that I am so crazy about? High heeled, pointy pumps worn with skinny jeans. There is really no sexier look on the planet (in my opinion) and it looks good on almost everyone. The narrow line of the pants is complimented by the point of the shoe, creating a long, clean line. I love the classic look of pointed pumps, and I especially love how they dress up a pair of jeans. The look can go dressy with a blouse or sexy tank top for a night out, or funkier with distressed jeans and a tee. Either way, it’s a classic. Sexy, edgy, universally flattering.
