We’ve all talked about it, and we’ve definitely all felt it! As soon as I take down Christmas, I’m relishing the clean, pared down aesthetic. For awhile. And then, not so much. My house starts to feel pretty bare, and on top of that, it’s cold, it’s dreary, and it makes me long for spring.
1. VelvetVelvet is a trend that started getting really big last year in fashion, and now it seems to be hopping over to design. It’s elegant, and timeless, but it’s also cozy and luxurious and speaks to making our homes more comfortable. I’m seeing it in sofas and chairs more than ever, but an inexpensive way of incorporating it into your home would be with pillows. And they can be found almost everywhere, from Pottery Barn to Walmart, and at every price point.

|I love this basket used as art! And more texture comes in the form of the cozy throw, and the vintage bench as well as the distressed floors. Just stunning!|

And what if you are not a fan of green? Or, maybe you like it, but you don’t want to change too much or make that big of a commitment. If you have neutral or white interiors, you can incorporate green the natural way with plants or flowers.

No, I’m not talking head to toe camouflage, but I do love the look of an army style jacket this time of year. Apparently, I love the color olive! I talked about it as the perfect color for fall in this post a couple of weeks ago, but here I’m talking about the more specific idea of a military inspired jacket. It’s the perfect bit of edge to add to an outfit, and the faded olive color goes with everything. And it’s the right amount of warmth when you need an extra layer now that the evenings and mornings are beginning to cool off, but it’s not really cold yet. It’s a lightweight jacket, but it definitely looks more at home in the fall than in the spring. Take a look!

Fall is probably my favorite season. I love the crispness in the air (or, at least in LA, the promise of crispness!), the turning of the leaves, eating apples, making homey dinners, and wearing cozy sweaters. And even though I no longer attend school, September is still, in my mind, the beginning of school and so, I still associate it with “Fall shopping.” There’s just something about those new sweaters and boots that gets me as excited as a teen! I’m going to do a post on Fall trends soon, so for now I just wanted to focus on an item that I love and that isn’t necessarily a new trend, but is nonetheless evocative of Fall. Olive is one of those colors. And though you can wear it year round, and I definitely do, it just says “Fall” to me. Whether you call it olive, moss, army, or khaki green, it works well with the other Fall neutrals of grey and brown, and can work in both casual and dressy situations. And, it looks amazing with both black and white (and we know how I love those colors!)
Yes, I am aware that’s it’s only Thursday and this post is called Friday Favorites! However, I have a very special post coming this Friday so I’m sending you my Friday/Thursday Favorites a day early! Now onto the favorites… I have a little bit of a love affair with topiaries of all kinds. Ivy, rosemary, myrtle… all are so cute, but the myrtle topiaries really have my heart. However, they are so hard to find, at least here in Southern California. I see them on blogs, on Pinterest, in Martha Stewart magazine, but I’ve never seen them here! No matter – I will be finding some, even if it means I have to have them shipped! Their charm is undeniable…..
I’m so excited to share with you that I will be doing a Spring Blog Hop with some of my favorite bloggers starting tomorrow (Friday)! I hope you will stop by and also visit some of their homes as well! I don’t think you will be disappointed!
