Today’s post is a special one that I’ve never done before, and I’m excited to share it with you! Lisa of Shine your Light, Kris of Driven by Decor, Pam of Simple Details and Jennifer of Dimples and Tangles do a Five Favorite posts every month and they always ask a guest blogger to contribute. This month is all about Summer Essentials, and I was thrilled that they asked me to join them! Summer is definitely a favorite season of mine, and I love that I get a chance to share my favorite summer essentials with you.
Spring and summer fashion is so fun! Breezy tops, flirty sundresses, sandals (with bright pedicures!), cropped jeans, cut-offs, and straw bags. I love a good straw bag! Is there any bag that screams summer more than this one?!
Larger ones are great as totes to the beach or on vacation, but a small or medium sized one makes a great handbag for when the weather heats up. Made from raffia or straw, they are lightweight and can hold a ton. In fact, the straw bag originated in France. Women would take large woven straw bags to the farmer’s markets to load up with fresh fruits and vegetables. Leave it to the French to make even going to the market fashionable!
Last year bandanas and neckerchiefs (when was the last time you heard that term?) started showing up during fashion week and also on some of the street-style stars and fashion bloggers. If you aren’t aware of this, trends that start with high fashion or during fashion week sometimes die off and never hit the real street (us). However, I have now been seeing neck scarfs showing up around town and on the web. This is a trend that I absolutely love. I mean, is there anything more classic than a chic little neck scarf to add polish to a casual outfit?
