I’m a blazer lover – I have quite a few and I would say it’s a big part of my definitive style. But I wasn’t always someone who wore them. I think because I don’t work in a traditional office situation, it didn’t really land on my radar. However, once I started buying blazers and wearing them, I couldn’t stop!
For my money, there is nothing like a great coat to make an outfit. You could be wearing something so simple, and having a dramatic or colorful coat can make the difference between an average outfit and a ‘wow’ outfit. In fact, if you pair it with jeans or neutrals, the coat is the outfit. And in the winter, with rainy, or cold, or just plain dreary weather, it’s great to have that pop of color to add life to your outfit, and your mood!
One of the biggest fashion trends talked about for Fall is the cape. They are back! Capes and cape “style” coats are super hot right now. Not only are they incredibly chic, but also practical for anyone who lives in a place that doesn’t get that cold in the winter (like me:)). It’s more stylish than a coat, but also because the arms are not completely covered, it allows for some air flow when you don’t need to be completely covered up. Plus, I’m sorry, is there anything more elegant than a cape?
Let’s talk about the Midi. This skirt length has happened before (several times, in fact) and though it was hinted at as far back as last summer, the trend actually seems to be taking hold now. At first I was not at all sure about it, but I must say, it’s growing on me. There is something very elegant about it, and more importantly, it is flattering on almost everyone. I’m not sure why, but it seems to be more common in a full, circle skirt as opposed to a pencil skirt. This look is such a chic statement, and I love how feminine it is. And if the length seems a little scary after so many years of near or above the knee, start with just a couple of inches below the knee (again, universally flattering) rather than halfway between the knee and the calf.
I am ready for Spring! I didn’t know how ready I was until our warm spring-like weather that we’d been having turned to rain and cold wind the last couple of days! I know I shouldn’t complain as the Mid-west and the East have had such a horrible winter, and normally I love the winter and cold weather, but I guess I am just ready. In order to split the difference between the mercurial weather and my desire for spring, I have been looking for a brightly colored coat. One thing about Southern California this time of year is our weather is very up and down. Our days can start out warm but be quite cold by late afternoon, or we will have a chilly morning that warms up later (or not at all!) Usually the way I deal with this is to carry a lightweight cardigan with me. However, this year I am desperately needing a new coat (or coats!) and I had a bright idea, if I get a brightly colored one, it would be spring appropriate.
