Stunning Rustic European Style Home Tour
This stunning European style home is filled to the brim with unique elements, rustic touches, and Old World charm.

Kristen Mullen is one of my favorite designers, so when she reached out to me and offered photos from her newest project to share with my readers, I was thrilled!
This custom home is located outside of Dallas in the horse country. Featuring a mix of European touches, French country charm, and rustic details like brick and stone, this is a dream home if ever there was one!
Built in 2024, the architecture was inspired by the houses of the Luberon in the south of France but with the addition of several charming courtyards, which are more reminiscent of Spain.

The gorgeous entry sets the tone for this rustic chic home, with antique tables, beautiful iron doors, and vintage lanterns.
“The entry serves as both the front entry and the back entry to the home. Since our client loves gardening, we imagined this space as a very informal garden room where she can set her gardening tools down and not worry about the mess or muss,” says Kristin.

Kristin says, “Each room really has a signature element or highlight. In the living room that highlight is a TV which is hidden behind a clever tapestry. When it’s closed, the room feels quite elevated. But when open, it allows the family to relax in the comfy couches upholstered in performance fabrics, making the room as carefree as possible.”

Every room contains a mix of antiques and contemporary furniture, creating a comfortable and inviting space.

Kristin describes her decorating style as striking a balance between modernity and antiquity. Her ‘design love language’ is pattern and texture and she loves finding items that tell a story.
“I especially adore a mix of coastal European and English antiques with comfortable bench-made American furnishings. I truly delight in creating homes that embrace both earthiness and elegance”.

The dining room has a unique floor made of a unique terracotta tile, with a mix of antique chairs from Sweden and France.

And the kitchen is a stunner!
One of Kristin’s favorite elements in the home is the range alcove featuring a stunning Lacanche range surrounded by a plaster hood and a simple Zellige tile backsplash.

Reclaimed wood beams and pale oak floors ground the space, while the pale blue cabinets bring lots of personality. Absolutely lovely!

White ironstone pitchers and antique mortar and pestle sets – be still my heart!

The pantry features skirted counters and fabric covered doors in a pretty pear espalier pattern. So charming!

The breakfast room is probably my favorite room in the house! I love the mix of the farmhouse table with the white iron chairs, as well as the charming built-in banquette.

The powder room features an antique gold mirror as well as a stone sink.

Kristin’s most favorite thing in the home is this special room they named the “chisme,” which is Spanish for ‘gossip’.
“Our client came to us with the idea of creating an intimate space where she and her family and friends could gather and talk about ALL the things. We loved the idea and really dove into designing this jewel box of a room, which marries soft whispers of blue with rich caramel tones and is filled with antique relics that give it a storied charm.”

In the laundry room we see the same floors as the dining room, as well as a skirted sink and sweet cafe curtains.

The primary suite is laid back yet luxe, with linen bedding and gorgeous pale damask draperies.
The gorgeous iron bed with it’s dramatic swoop is another one of the designer’s favorite features!

The primary bathroom has an indulgent soaking tub that overlooks the garden. I might never leave!
To Kristin, “home is a respite from the cares of the world, a cocoon of comfort when we need it. It’s a place for laughter and silliness, peace and solitude, and sometimes heartbreak and tears. But more than anything, it’s a place where we gather all the things that mean the most in our lives.”
I couldn’t agree more! I hope you enjoyed this very special home tour as much as I enjoyed sharing it!
